Uniform drive for Head Start kids

More than twenty 20 Head Start students have been attending school without coats in very cold weather.
St. Mary Community Action Agency Inc. and current Miss CAA Jalisa Stewart are asking the assistance of community partners, social organizations and religious groups, to help raise funds, or collect donations to supply less fortunate students with coats for the winter.
Earlier this school year, Stewart organized a school supply drive with help from her immediate family as well as her church family and friends. The school supply drive went well and supplies were donated and collected for some less privileged Head Start students.
Another drive is now under way. Students vary in sizes from 4T-6, and unisex coats are welcome for the boys and girls. St. Mary CAA is also willing to collaborate with other local and national businesses for donations as well to ensure that each Head Start student is clothed properly, healthy, and able to attend school regularly.
CEO Almetra Franklin said reigning Miss CAA, one of Stewart’s responsibilities is to advocate the agency, and represent it in its most positive light and she has done so. She said St. Mary CAA is an agency that advocates people helping other people, and together we can continue to make a positive, impactful difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
