‘Purple Heart Outdoors’ fundraiser will help send veterans on trips

Purple Heart Outdoors will host a 5K race and fun day Sunday with food, a jeep and car show, and lots of other activities in Berwick to raise money to take disabled veterans on hunting and fishing trips.
A 5K run/walk will start at 8 a.m. on the Berwick Walking Trail across from A.J. Dohmann car dealership.
Fun day events will go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A.J. Dohmann with a live band, two radio stations broadcasting, a jeep and car show, obstacle course and bounce house for kids, Purple Heart Outdoors president and founder Dustin Bagwell said.
Purple Heart Outdoors is a non-profit organization in Morgan City that takes local wounded and disabled military veterans on hunting and fishing trips, Bagwell said.
All proceeds from Sunday’s event goes to fund those trips because Purple Heart Outdoors pays for all the participants’ expenses including gas to get to the destination, hunting and fishing licenses and all other costs, Bagwell said.
The jeep/car show at A.J. Dohmann combines “a classic car” and “modern jeep” show, Joey Dohmann of A.J. Dohmann said.
Swamp People star Troy Landry will be signing autographs and cooking alligator, Bagwell said. Cannata’s Market will also cook food.
Event organizers will auction off donated items and award door prizes, Bagwell said.
Bagwell founded the organization slightly less than a year ago and has raised money at several other events such as the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, Bayou BBQ Bash and Berwick Lighthouse Festival.
