Cajun Coast Classic horseshoe tourney this weekend
The Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau, in partnership with the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association, will host the first Cajun Coast Classic horseshoe tournament Saturday and Sunday at Kemper Williams Park.
More than 50 pitchers hailing from 13 states are scheduled to take part in the tournament, slated as the final event for the 2015 season of The Horseshoe Tour.
“We are proud and excited about having the Cajun Coast Classic on our tour schedule this season,” Ron Taylor, Horseshoe Tour Director of Operations, said in a news release.
“The Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association have been very gracious and great to work with. We have quite a few top players traveling in for this event, including the top ranked player, Joan Elmore from Tennessee, and No. 4 Dan Watson from Alabama. It is going to be a great tournament.”
The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and is open for public viewing. Concessions will be available. Entrance to Kemper Williams Park is $2 per vehicle.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting this event that’s bringing horseshoe pitchers from across the country,” Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau Executive Director Carrie Stansbury said in a news release. “We can’t wait for them to experience the hospitality and beauty that south Louisiana, and especially St. Mary Parish, are known for.”
Tim Gilmore of the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association credited Stansbury with securing the event.
He said the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association is excited about hosting the event. Gilmore said he thinks it’s going to place the Tri-City area “on the horseshoe map.”
In addition to the highly regarded competitors previously mentioned, Gilmore said the Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association also will have competitors participating.
The Cajun Coast would like to thank its supporting partners in this event: Amelia Belle Casino, Kemper Williams Park, St. Mary Parish Government, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Plains All American Pipeline, Whitetail Rental and D.A.T. Sauce.
