Vigil planned in memory of young Centerville man

Staff Report

A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Friday night in memory of Nevis Sterling, the young Centerville man whose body was found Monday in the Intracoastal Canal near Amelia.
The vigil in memory of Nevis Sterling will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Verdunville Park.
Participants are asked to wear black or purple clothing to show their support for victims of crime.
The circumstances of Sterling’s death are still under investigation.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry referred questions whether the death has officially been ruled a homicide to the office of Coroner F.H. Metz.
Metz, whose office said he had a day off Thursday, didn’t immediately respond to a request for information.
Tugboat workers found the body of 25-year-old Nevis Sterling Monday afternoon, near a business in the 8000 block of La. 182 in Amelia.
Deputies say family members reported Sterling missing around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday after finding his car in Verdunville.
