Weather postpones Harvest Moon Fest

The 17th annual Franklin Harvest Moon Festival scheduled for this weekend, has been rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15, by organizers due to a forecasted 100 percent chance of inclement weather this Saturday.
Organizers of the popular event said the decision was made to ensure the public, vendors, musicians and businesses, who have invested time and effort in the festival, have the event they have come to expect.
Several weather forecasting entities including the National Weather Service have predicted inclement weather for the coming weekend including precipitation that likely would’ve prevented many in the community from attending the festival.
Cherrise Picard, Executive Director of Chez Hope and one of the organizers of the Harvest Moon Festival, said they hoped the public would understand the necessity of postponing the event and would still come out for the celebration in November.
“This is a celebration of our heritage,” Picard said. “It started out as the beginning of the shopping season but really it celebrates our sugarcane harvest. Several years ago we started decorating the lampposts. It’s just a fun day.”
Organizers said 20 out of the previously scheduled 30 vendors will be able to make the Nov. 15 date. All of the musical acts will also be able to attend.
The Harvest Moon Festival, weather permitting, will feature arts and crafts vendors, live music, a parade and a car show.
