Franklin readies Christmas event, Santa letters box

Franklin is gearing up for the Christmas season with the annual parade and a mailbox to drop off letters to Santa Claus.
The mailbox will be ready to accept letters to Santa Claus Dec.1 at 8 a.m., through Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. Include a return address in all letters. For more information about the letters to Santa Claus, contact Emily Hidalgo at 337-828-6347 or ehidalgo@franklin-la.com.
Applications are ready for participants in the Christmas parade. Nonprofit organizations are asked to become vendors. Vendors are needed to sell food and other items, for children’s carnival games and face painting. Walkers and golf carts are also needed for the parade.
Those who sign-up their golf carts have the option of participating in the decorating contest. The theme is “Christmas in Louisiana.”
“This is a fun time of year for everyone,” Mayor Raymond Harris said. “I am hoping that we’ll have more schools, more churches, more organizations, more golf carts and more vendors to participate. Nonprofit organizations are asked and encouraged to become vendors. This is the time for them to prepare for future project such as summer and back-to-school programs, proms and senior trips.”
