(Update) Bayou Vista Bear

Staff Report

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and St. Mary Parish Office of Black Bear Conflict are asking the public to stay away from the bear located on Clarke Road in Bayou Vista.

The black bear feels safest in the tree, said Black Bear Conflict Officer Catherine Siracusa. As long as there are people around, it will remain in tree.

Both, the LDWF and Black Bear Conflict Office, will keep watch and wait for the bear to come down from tree.

Siracusa believes the bear is a young male weighing approximately 250 pounds.

A bear trap has been set.

Please make sure all trash cans, bird feeders, etc...are closed and unable to be accessed by the bear.
