Central Catholic Lady Eagles nip Centerville Lady Bulldogs
CENTERVILLE _ Central Catholic’s Lady Eagles earned a 37-31 District 7-1A win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs here Friday at the CHS Gym.
Centerville exploded to a 14-8 run in the first quarter before Central Catholic answered with a 15-4 run of its own in the second quarter for a 23-18 lead at intermission. Both teams tossed in six points apiece in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles clung to a 29-24 advantage over the Lady Bulldogs. Central Catholic outpointed the Centerville 8-7 down the stretch for the narrow 37-31 district win.
Kayla Robinson led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points while Rylie Candella finished with seven points.
Centerville will play at Hanson Memorial on Tuesday in District 7-1A action.

Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles turn back Hanson Lady Tigers
ABBEVILLE _ Hanson Memorial’s Lady Tigers couldn’t overcome a shaky start before falling to the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles 38-21 here Friday at the VCHS Gym.
The Lady Tigers committed 16 turnovers of which they could not recover in dropping the 38-21 setback to Vermilion Catholic.
Hanson’s Casey Fitzgerald led the Lady Tigers in scoring while Baylee Young turned in a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 blocks.
Fitzgerald connected on a pair of treys, one deuce and 3 of 4 free throws. Carli Pellerin finished with six points and four rebounds while Allyssa Young tossed in two points and Sarah Sonnier fired in two points while pulling down four rebounds.
Hanson (2-2 in District 7-1A) will play host Centerville on Tuesday night.

Centerville Bulldogs down Central Catholic
CENTERVILLE - Centerville gets past Central Catholic in Centerville 52-42 Friday night to improve to 2-0 in District 7-1A and even their overall record to 5-5 on the season here at the CHS Gym.
CC is 0-2 in 7-1A. Centerville will be at Hanson on Tuesday.
The CHS Bulldogs went on a 14-4 run in the second quarter, gaining a 24-16 halftime advantage. Centerville held a 37-34 lead at the end of the third quarter before exploding past Central Catholic in the fourth quarter thanks in part to a 15-8 run.
Jaylon Williams pumped in a game-high 16 points to propel the Bulldogs. Williams drained three treys, a pair of deuces and 1 of 2 freebies for his 16 points. Marvin Strawder also scored in double digits, bagging 15 points on four treys and 3 of 5 charity shots.
Rounding out the scoring for the Centerville Bulldogs were: Lance Howard, 7; Cole Candella, 6; Karl Young, 5;
Marquis Strawder, 2 and Desmond Monette, 1.
Central Catholic’s top scorers included: Elijah Swan, 11; Jalen Johnson, 10; Brooks Thomas, 6; Davidyionne Bias, 6; Tanner Wiggins, 6 and Blake Byrne, 3.
On the night, Centerville connected on nine 3’s and 5 of 11 free throws while Central Catholic managed five treys and 5 of 11 shots charity shots.
Centerville will travel to play Hanson Memorial on Tuesday in league play.

Hanson Tigers sail past VCHS Eagles
ABBEVILLE _ Brennan Young, Bo Barrilleaux and Britt Young all scored double figures, lifting the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 56-49 District 7-1A victory over the Vermilion Catholic Eagles here Friday at the VCHS Gym.
Hanson (1-1 in league play) built up a 14-6 lead in the first quarter before taking a 25-18 cushion at the half. Hanson coasted to the 56-49 victory with a strong second half showing.
Brennan Young led the Tigers in scoring with 22 points on five treys, one deuce and 5 of 5 charity shots. Barrilleaux finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Britt Young poured in 11 points one five 2’s and 1 of 2 freebies.
Other top scorers for the HMS Tigers were: Josh Sanchez, 6; Clint Young, 2 points, 4 rebounds and Schler Fitch, 2 points.
Hanson (1-1 in league play) will host Centerville on Tuesday.

Cardinals win over Franklin Hornets
The E. D. White Cardinals posted a 74-56 District 8-3A win over the Franklin Hornets here Friday at the FSHS Gym.
The Cardinals jumped outfront by a 15-13 margin in the first period before securing a 45-24 advantage at the half. EDW gained a 64-39 lead over Franklin at the end of three quarters en route to the 74-56 win.
Kevin Ina paced the Hornets attack with 17 points while Dwonyell Charles and Tra’antray James fired in 14 points apiece. Justin Poledore bagged eight points while Jarius Boyd contributed two points.
The Franklin Hornets will play host to the Erath Bobcats on Tuesday in District 8-3A action.
