Open house for January Artist of the Month
Everett Street Gallery in Morgan City is initiating a new aspect to feature some of the outstanding artists from our area of South Louisiana.
There will be an open house for January’s Artist of the Month, Vera Deville Judycki, 6-8 p.m. today.
Judycki first studied art with Jim Richard in the 1970s, but her teaching and administrative duties precluded her pursuing further studies until the mid-90s, when she studied at New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. Her primary teachers were Alison Stewart, Adrian Deckbar, Auseklis Ozols, and Kathy Gergo. In addition, other formal training included classes at UNO, NSU, and Delgado Community College, as well as at the Jewish Community Center.
Workshops are, and were, part of her artistic life, especially those with Michael Crespo, Judi Betts and Elemore Morgan of Louisiana, Woodstock School of Art in New York, and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
She holds membership in Louisiana Watercolor Society, Louisiana Art and Artists Guild, and Artists Guild Unlimited.
Although she works most frequently in watercolor and mixed media, she also paints in oils and acrylic. Her primary subject matter in the past included florals, abstracts, and historical sites.
Her most current work focuses on trees, swamps, and marshes as well as gingko leaves. Judycki utilizes a variety of grounds including rice paper, pumice and gesso, modeling paste, and other additives. Regardless of the subject matter, she focuses on color, texture, and movement.
She is currently represented in New Orleans at Shades of Blue; in Lafayette at Gallery 549; and the Elizabethan Gallery in Baton Rouge, as well as Everett Street Gallery, Morgan City.
She has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows and in juried as well as non-juried shows throughout South Louisiana.
Her works have been commissioned by numerous hospitals and banks, as well as by many individuals.
Mrs. Judycki’s work will be for sale, along with works of other members of Everett Street Gallery.
The show will run through Jan. 30 at Everett Street Gallery, 201 Everett St. in Morgan City.
