Centerville Bulldogs hold off GHS Bears
CENTERVILLE – Centerville built an early lead and coasted to a 42-37 District 7-1A win over the Gueydan Bears here Friday at the CHS Gym.
With the win, the Centerville Bulldogs improved to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in District 7-1A.
Centerville will be at Central Catholic on Tuesday.
Centerville set the tone in early with a 15-6 advantage. The Bulldogs kept the hot hand with a 13-8 flurry to double up the Bears at 28-14 at the half. In the second half, Gueydan mounted a rally but fell short as the Bulldogs strolled away with the 42-37 victory.
Leading scorers for Centerville were: Marvin Strawder, 12; Desmond Monette, 8; Karl Young, 6; Jaqualon Bourgeois, 6; Marquis Strawder, 5; Jayvien Thomas, 3 and Cole Candella, 2.
Leading scorers for Gueydan were: Cade Sonnier, 16; Colton Woods, 12 and Mark Clark, 5.
Centerville will travel to battle Central Catholic on Tuesday in District 7-1A action.

Lady Hornets defeat Berwick
BERWICK _ Quanta Jones and Chardonnae Parker scored in double digits, leading the Franklin Lady Hornets to a 43-30 District 8-A victory over the Berwick Lady Panthers here Friday at the BHS Gym.
Franklin held a lead over Berwick in every quarter, including a 9-8 advantage at the half. At intermission, the Lady Hornets clung to a 16-15 cushion. Franklin seized a 29-21 bulge at the end of the three quarter on the way to the 13-point 43-30 triumph.
Jones tossed in 24 points on 6 FGs, 1 3-FG, and 9 of 10 FT. Parker finished with with 15 points on 3 FGs, 1 3FG and 6 of 10 FT and Aaliyah Smith with 4 on 2 FGs and 2 of 2 FT.
The Lady Hornets will be at E. D. White On Tuesday. Girls JV will start at 530 followed by girls varsity and then boys varsity.

Lady Tigers down Lady Gators
Hanson Memorial’s Lady Tigers proved too tough for the Ascension Episcopal School Lady Gators Friday in District 7-1A at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers defeated AES by a final score of 42-21.
Hanson Memorial secured a huge 16-4 lead in the first quarter en route to an insurmountable 27-8 halftime cushion. Hanson Memorial doubled up AES at 38-19 at the end of the third stanza. The Lady Tigers went on a 6-2 flurry in the final period for the easy 42-21 triumph.
Casey Fitzgerald led Hanson in scoring with 10 points. Other top scorers for Hanson were: Sarah Sonnier, 9 points, 9 rebounds; Baylee Young, 8 points, 9 rebounds; Allyssa Young, 7 points; Carli Pellerin, 6 points and Sarah Daniel, 2 points.

Gueydan edges Lady Bulldogs
CENTERVILLE _ Nya Boudreaux scored a game-high 17 points, leading the Gueydan Honey Bears past the Centerville Lady Bulldogs 50-38 in District 7-1A action Friday at the CHS Gym.
Centerville’s leading scorers were Rylie Candella with 16 points and Kayla Robinson with 10 points.

Berwick nips Franklin
BERWICK _ The Berwick Panthers slipped past the Franklin Hornets 52-51 here Friday in District 8-3A action at the BHS Gym.
Franklin and Berwick traded strong starting quarters in the contest. Franklin built a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter only to allow Berwick to go on a 19-13 run in the second stanza as Franklin clung to a 34-28 halftime cushion. The Panthers pulled closer to Franklin in the third period following a narrow 10-8 run. Down the stretch, the Panthers went on a 14-11 flurry to nip the Hornets by a 52-51 margin.
Kevin Ina poured in a game-high 24 points for the Hornets. Rounding out the scoring for Franklin were: Dwonyell Charles, 13; Justin Poledore, 8; Tra’antray James, 4 and Jarius Boyd, 2.
Franklin will travel to play the E. D. White Cardinals on Tuesday in District 8-3A action at 7 p.m.

AES wins over Tigers
The Ascension Episcopal School Blue Gators earned a 57-38 District 7-1A victory over the Hanson Memorial Tigers Friday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
Leading scorers for the Hanson Memorial Tigers were: Bo Barrilleaux, 10; Brennan Young, 8; Brian Sonnier, 8; Britt Young, 6; Josh Sanchez, 2; Robert Camors, 2 and Kyler Clements, 2.
Hanson Memorial will host Vermilion Catholic on Tuesday in District 7-1A action.
