Casino shooting suspect arrested

A 55-year-old man, who was accused of shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her companion at Cypress Bayou Casino last week, has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Alfred Gabriel, 55, was arrested at 6:45 a.m. Saturday by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel in the Sorrell area, according to a Chitimacha police news release.
Gabriel was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Chitimacha Tribal Police Department, the release said.
Gabriel was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm and unauthorized use of a movable. He was also charged with a fugitive warrant from the Texas for violation of sex offender requirements.
At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Gabriel allegedly shot at his ex-girlfriend and her companion in the Cypress Bayou Casino parking lot in Charenton.
No one was injured by the gunfire. Authorities recovered the weapon, along with other evidence, at the scene. Investigators located the vehicle Gabriel was driving several hours later abandoned near the St. Mary Co-Op sugar mill in Jeanerette.
Later in the night Chitimacha police secured a search warrant for Gabriel’s last known address. Members of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office special response team, along with assistance from Franklin Police Department, entered the residence. Investigators secured evidence inside the home.
The Chitimacha Police Department thanked the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office-Criminal Intelligence Unit, Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals for all of their assistance that led to the capture of Gabriel.
