Centerville topples Highland Baptist
NEW IBERIA _ Four Centerville players scored in double digits, lifting the Centerville Bulldogs to a 78-41 triumph over Highland Baptist in the regular season finale here Friday.
Centerville improved to 12-10 overall and 9-5 in 7-1A. Highland Baptist finishes their season 2-25 overall and 0-14 in 7-1A.
Centerville seized control from the opening tap, taking an 18-7 lead in the first quarter before coasting to a 35-18 halftime cushion. Centerville sailed ahead by a 55-38 cushion at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs kept the hot hand in the final period, going on a 20-3 run on the way to the 78-41 victory.
Marquis Strawder drained 7-2’s and 3-3’s for 23 points to lead the Bulldogs. Marvin Strawder made good on 7-2’s, 1 of 2 FTs for 15 points. Jaqualon Bourgeois connected on 3-2’s and 2-3’s along with 2 of 3 FTs for 14 points. Karl Young bagged 4-2’s, 1-3-pointer and 1 of 1 FTs for 12 points.
Other top scorers for CHS included: Cole Candella, 4; Devin Monette, 3; Ryan Young, 2; Jayvien Thomas, 2; Desmond Monette, 2 and Collin Deslatte, 1.
Highland Baptist’s Tyler Green led all scorers with 24 points on 11-2s and 2 of 6 FTs. Josh Horn also scored in double digits for Highland Baptist with 12 points.

Hanson Tigers edge Gueydan Bears, 46-43
GUEYDAN _ Brennan Young and Clint Young scored 18 and 15 points respectively, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 46-43 District 7-1A victory over the Gueydan Bears here Friday at the GHS Gym.
The Hanson Tigers used strong second and third quarters scoring sprees to turn back the Bears. Gueydan opened the first quarter with a 9-5 lead over the Hanson Tigers. In the second quarter, the Hanson Memorial Tigers went on a 15-7 run, gaining a 20-16 halftime bulge. The Tigers stretched their lead to 37-31 in the third quarter thanks to a 17-14 flurry. Gueydan managed to outpoint Hanson in the final period but it was too late as the Tigers held on for the 46-43 league victory.
Brennan Young led the Tigers with 18 points on five treys, one deuce and 1 of 3 free throws. Clint Young turned in a double-double performance, draining 15 points on seven field goals and 1 of 2 charity shots while also yanking down 17 rebounds.
