UPDATED: CLAUDETTE FREEMAN SPEIGHTS

Claudette Freeman Speights, 79, a resident of Berwick, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Houma.
Claudette was born on September 25, 1936, in Plaquemine, the daughter of Claude Freeman and Carrie Marchal Freeman.
Claudette was a physical education teacher at Berwick High School from the 1960’s until the 1980’s. Once she retired from teaching, she served as a substitute teacher for the parish from the 1980’s until the mid-2000’s. She was a parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church where she previously taught catechism. She loved antiques and enjoyed collecting them.
Family would like to thank the doctors and staff of AMG Specialty Hospital in Houma for the loving care they gave.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Claud “Josh” Speights of Berwick; one sister, Catherine “Susie” Songy of Plaquemine; one brother, Charles Warren Freeman of Sibley, Mississippi; one sister-in-law, Teresa Speights of Many; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Claudette was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Carrie Marchal Freeman; husband, Joel J. Speights; one sister, Carol H. Freeman; and one brother, Claude “Bubba” Freeman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick with Monsignor J. Douglass Courville officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with the visitation resuming from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass Tuesday at St. Stephen Church. Following Mass Claudette will be laid to rest in the Grace Memorial Cemetery in Plaquemine.
