CCHS wins 2 in Donaldsonville
Central Catholic finished 2-0 this weekend at the Ascension Catholic tournament, knocking off the host Ascension Catholic and Dunham.
In the 12-3 win against Ascension Catholic, the game actually began Friday before it was suspended due to weather and finished Saturday.
Central Catholic scored four runs in the first and two more in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.
While Ascension Catholic cut its deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Central Catholic responded with six runs in the top of the seventh for the final margin.
Central Catholic outhit Ascension Catholic 13-9, led by Patrick Barron’s 3-for-4 performance with a double, two RBIs and a run. Other top contributors included Mitchell Lemoine, 3-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run; Thomas Garber, 1-for-4, a double and two RBIs; Samuel Guarisco and Gregory Leger, each 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run; Adam Dupuis, 1-for-4, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs; Stefano Guarisco, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Jesse Fontenot, 1-for-1, an RBI.
Charlie Solar earned the win on the mound. In six innings, he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits with two walks and fanned six.
Against Dunham, Central Catholic plated the winning run in the ninth inning when Garber scored on a passed ball in the 1-0 win.
Garber had reached base on a single, advanced to second when Barron was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a bunt by the next batter, Leger. He scored during the at bat of the Eagles eight-hole hitter, Blake Hidalgo, via the passed ball.
While he received a no-decision, Leger pitched the game’s first seven innings and surrendered no hits, walked two and fanned three.
Samuel Guarisco relieved him and got the win. In two innings, he surrendered two hits and fanned one.
Leger led the offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a double, while Garber was 2-for-4.
Central Catholic (9-1) will return to action today when it opens District 7-1A action at Lafayette Christian in a 6 p.m. contest.
Morgan City wins lone weekend game
Morgan City knocked off Catholic High-New Iberia, 4-1, at New Iberia High School’s tournament Saturday.
Morgan City never trailed, scoring a run in the second and two more in the third for a 3-1 lead.
After Catholic High cut its deficit to 3-2 in the top of the sixth, Morgan City responded with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Rhett Fryou earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, he surrendered one earned run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Abram Hartley led Morgan City with a 1-for-2 performance with an RBI. Other top offensive contributors included Philip Hutchinson and Joshua Lorenzo, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Morquisse Charles, an RBI.
Morgan City (6-8) will return to action Friday when it hosts Madison Prep in a 1 p.m. contest.
Patterson finishes
weekend 1-2
Patterson finished its weekend at South Beauregard’s tournament, defeating DeRidder Friday but falling to Rosepine and South Beauregard Saturday.
Against DeRidder, Patterson was victorious, 7-2.
Each team scored a run in the first inning, and while DeRidder took a 2-1 lead after four innings, Patterson scored two runs apiece in its next three at bats for the final margin.
Patterson outhit DeRidder 13-5 led by Bryce Beaubouef’s 3-for-4 performance. Beaubouef, who finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, had a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Brad Beaubouef, 3-for-4, two RBIs; Blake Dreyer, 1-for-4, a home run, an RBI and a run; Brennan Gouaux, 2-for-4, an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases; Tyrik Singleton, 2-for-3; Jamey Fabre, 1-for-5, an RBI; and Matt Dardeau, 1-for-3, a double, a stolen base and two runs.
Despite the win, Patterson stranded 11 runners on base and committed five errors.
Joel Singleton earned the win. In six innings he surrendered two earned runs on five hits with three walks and fanned eight.
Against Rosepine, Patterson fell 6-0.
Rosepine scored three runs in the bottom of the first, added a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth.
Rosepine outhit Patterson, 14-7.
Gouaux suffered the loss. In six innings, he surrendered six earned runs on 14 hits with three strikeouts.
Offensively, Sirbatian Charles led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a stolen base, while Dardeau was 2-for-3,
In its tournament finale, Patterson was run-ruled, 15-3, by South Beauregard in five innings.
While Patterson had the game tied at 3 after two innings, South Beauregard plated four runs in the bottom of the third, five more in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth inning to end the game.
Patterson was outhit 14-4. South Beauregard had six doubles.
Charles suffered the loss. In three innings, he surrendered 11 earned runs on 10 hits with two walks, one hit batter and fanned three.
Brad Beaubouef led the Patterson offense with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI. Other top contributors included Dardeau, 1-for-1, a double and a run; Gouaux, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Joel Singleton, an RBI.
Patterson (6-7) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Maurepas in a 4 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes weekend 0-2
Berwick finished the weekend 0-2 at Lutcher’s tournament as the Panthers fell to St. Charles Catholic and Riverside.
Against St. Charles, Berwick fell, 6-0.
Cameron Wiley suffered the loss on the mound.
Offensively, Tanner Caldwell led Berwick with a 1-for-2 performance.
Against Riverside, Berwick fell, 6-2.
Austin Price suffered the loss on the mound.
Offensively, Mitchell Sanford led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance.
Berwick (5-12) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Franklin in a 5 p.m. contest.
