CCHS splits weekend games
The Central Catholic Lady Eagles split their weekend games at the Catholic Tournament, defeating Catholic High-New Iberia, but falling to Teurlings Catholic.
Against Catholic High, Central Catholic won 3-2.
The Lady Eagles rallied with three runs in the sixth inning for the victory.
Catholic High scored both of its runs in the third inning.
Sarah Thomas earned the win for the Lady Eagles. In seven innings, she allowed two earned runs on eight hits with three walks and fanned one.
Offensively, Central Catholic had six hits — all singles.
Taylor Picou led the squad with a 2-for-3 performance with a run. Other top hitters included Kelly Russo, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; and Cameron McDaniel, 1-for-3, an RBI.
In the Lady Eagles second game, they fell to Teurlings Catholic, 10-3.
Teurlings broke open a close game with six runs in the sixth inning.
Ahead 4-3 heading after Central Catholic had scored a run in the top of the sixth, Teurlings plated six runs in the bottom of the frame for a 10-3 advantage.
Central Catholic could not respond in its final at-bat.
Central Catholic took its only lead of the game with a run in the top of the first.
The game remained close most of the way, however, as Teurlings led 2-1 after two innings, 3-2 after three innings and 4-2 after four complete.
Thomas suffered the loss. In four innings, she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with one walk.
Teurlings outhit Central Catholic 13-7.
Picou led Central Catholic with a 2-for-3 performance with a triple, an RBI, a stolen base and a run, while McDaniel finished 1-for-3 with a triple.
Central Catholic (12-10 overall, 7-3 in District 7-1A) will return to action today when it hosts Centerville in a district contest. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
