Inmate accused of two batteries on jailers

An inmate at the parish jail was accused of grabbing a jailer during a cell search and then striking an officer while being transported to another area of the jail, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Jonah Madison, 21, of Franklin, was additionally charged at 1:55 p.m. Friday with two counts of battery of a correctional facility employee and criminal damage to property.
On Friday, the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement security team began an investigation into a report of a battery of a correctional officer. Investigators found evidence that inmate Madison grabbed a correctional officer while the officer was searching Madison’s cell.
Madison also damaged one of the jail’s phones. While moving the inmate to another area of the jail, Madison struck a correctional officer in the face. Madison remains in jail.
Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Cole Fruge, 24, of the 1300 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, at 9:15 a.m. Monday on the charges of domestic abuse battery, criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance in progress at a residence on Saturn Road in Bayou Vista. During the course of the investigation, the deputy found evidence that Fruge entered into a home, breaking a window and striking a female victim in the face. Fruge was jailed with no bail set.
—Stephen Bias, 51, of the 300 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, at 11:30 a.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of forgery and theft. Bias was also charged on a warrant for failure to appear on possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A correctional officer transported Bias from the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin to the parish jail on the warrants. No bail is set.
—Eddie L. Brown, 43, of the 1300 block of Joseph Street in Morgan City, at 6:58 p.m. Monday on a warrant for no seatbelt, driving under suspension, and resisting an officer. On March 26, a deputy patrolling Siracusa initiated a traffic stop on James Street on a vehicle after observing that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver failed to stop.
The driver then exited the vehicle and fled from the deputy on foot. During the subsequent investigation, the deputy positively identified the driver as Brown and found that he was operating the vehicle with a driver’s license that was listed as suspended. The deputy obtained a warrant for Brown’s arrest. Yesterday, a deputy observed Brown going into his home on Joseph Street. Bail is set at $2,250.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Mai Amador, 33, of Cottonwood Street in Morgan City, at 2:19 p.m. Monday on a warrant charging her with identity theft.
Amador, who was already incarcerated, was booked on an additional warrant. The warrant was obtained as a result of an investigation conducted by Morgan City Police Department detectives in regards to an alleged identity theft reported March 10.
—Bennie A. Charles, 31, of North Third Street in Morgan City, at 7:56 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws.
Morgan City Police Department narcotics detectives along with the assistance of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on North Third Street. Investigators located Charles inside the home and detained him.
Investigators located suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia during a search of the home. The location of the incident was within the area of an elementary school in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Charles was jailed.
—Nhirobi Dewey, 19, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, at 8:59 p.m. Monday on the charge of resisting an officer and on two warrants for failure to appear to pay fines on the charge of possession of marijuana, a warrant charging him with contempt of court, a warrant for failure to appear for trial on the charge of simple battery, and on a warrant for failure to appear for trial on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Officers responded to the area of Florida Alley in regards to a call of illegal drug activity in the area. Officers arrived and observed Dewey in the area. As officers approached, Dewey began running away from officers.
A foot chased ensued when officers chased Dewey for several city blocks and captured him a short time later. Dewey was jailed.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Clauderious Darby, 27, of Grace Street in Morgan City, at 8:41 p.m. Friday on the charges of resisting an officer, three counts of criminal trespassing and on a probation warrant.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Iberia Street in which Darby was a passenger. Darby allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Darby led officers on a short foot pursuit through three yards on Iberia Street, McGuire said. Darby was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
