Baker double winner in 7-1A meet
LAFAYETTE _ Lafayette Christian Academy Lady Knights and the Vermilion Catholic Eagles won the 2016 District 7-1A girls and boys Track and Field Championships here Tuesday at the Northside High School Track.
The Lafayette Christian Academy won the girls district title with 191 points. Ascension Episcopal was second with 141.5 points followed by Vermilion Catholic with 62.5 points. Hanson Memorial placed fourth with 51 points ahead of Highland Baptist and Gueydan High School with 33 points apiece. Central Catholic of Morgan City was seventh with 27 points while Centerville finished with six points for eighth place.
Vermilion Catholic nipped Lafayette Christian by a 145-143 margin while Ascension Episcopal taking third place with 133 points. Central Catholic of Morgan City was fourth with 70 points while Highland Baptist finished fifth with 53 points. Centerville tallied four points for sixth place while Hanson Memorial placed seventh with three points.
The top finishers for the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers were: Noel Baker, first, shot put, 31-05; Noel Baker, first, javelin, 123-10; 4x100 (Paige Diamond, Cecily Vaccarella, Kodi Gaither, Lunden Verdin), second, 53.42; 4x200 (Paige Diamond, Cecily Vaccarella, Kodi Gaither, Lunden Verdin), second, 1:54.02; Paige Diamond, third, javelin, 113-05; Olivia St. Blanc, fifth, triple jump, 26-05; Paige Diamond, fifth, discus, 69-09; Olivia Luke, sixth and triple jump, 25-11.
