(Updated) Police warn of electricity phone scam
Morgan City police are warning the public of scam involving a caller claiming to be from electricity provider Entergy and threatening to cut off service to residents.
The caller, who identifies himself as a worker for Entergy advises potential victims that a "Smart Meter" has been installed on their property and that because they have not paid the company a deposit, a worker will arrive to disconnect electrical services. The caller attempts to have the victim pay the deposit by credit card. A possible originating telephone number 1-888-616-7555.
