NILA MARY NINI

May 12, 1942 -May 8, 2016
Nila Mary Nini, 73, a resident of Berwick, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.
Nila was born May 12, 1942, in Berwick, the daughter of Raymond Bernard Nini and Eva Mae Folse Nini.
At age 8, Nila was disabled by polio and confined to a wheelchair. Despite her disability and the challenges she faced, Nila graduated from Berwick High School, attended Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, and graduated from St. Mary Dominican in New Orleans, where she obtained her B.S.CT(ASCP).
Her medical career spanned almost 30 years, starting with her internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and then continuing at Lakewood Hospital in Morgan City, working under Dr. Everett Trahan.
She was a member of ASPC, Easter Seals Post-Polio Support Group, former member of the Mayors’ Committee for Disability Issues and STEP/BIMS. She was also a caring daughter, sister, and aunt that will be missed by all who knew her.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her mother, Eva Mae Nini of Berwick; two brothers, Jerry Nini and wife, Sandra, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Rand Nini of Berwick; two aunts, Angelle Governale and Gloria Nini; five nephews and nieces, Selena Koro, Craig Courtney, Mashane Nini, Stephanie Adams and Melanie Nini; cousin, Toni DeRoen; and a lifelong dear friend, Margaruite Guarino.
Nila was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Bernard Nini; a sister, Madge Courtney; numerous aunts and uncles; and extended family.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2016, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Nila will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum.
