Police: Woman booked for drug possession after stop

A 37-year-old Morgan City woman was charged with possession of two different drugs after police stopped her in a vehicle that had a damaged windshield, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

—Heidi R. Sams, 37, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of improper lane usage, possession of legend drugs ketorolac and gabapentin, possession of drug paraphernalia and obscured windshield.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of La. 182 with a damaged windshield that appeared to be obscuring the driver’s view. As the officer got behind the vehicle, the vehicle was observed traveling out of its proper lane of travel. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Sams.

During a traffic investigation, Sams’ behavior made officers suspicious that Sams may be involved in illegal drug activity. Police searched the vehicle and located suspected ketorolac, gabapentin and drug paraphernalia, Blair said. Sams was jailed.

Blair reported the following arrests:

—Thomas G. Semmens, 26, of Gen. Hodges Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:22 a.m. today on the charges of improper lane usage and DWI second offense.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182 out of its proper lane of travel and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Semmens, who was suspected to have been drinking and was believed to be intoxicated. Semmens was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for further chemical testing where Semmens refused to submit to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test. Semmens was jailed.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:

—Malissa A. Gill, 26, of Shady Grove Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. today on four warrants charging her with failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the drug court treatment program. During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, a correctional officer located the active warrants. Bail is set at $400,000.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:

—Benjamin Cheramie, 45, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 4:44 a.m. today on a warrant charging him with violation of a protective order and on the charge of resisting an officer. No bail is set.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
