Skipper's holds off Praxair, 6-5

Skipper’s for Sports held off a late rally by Praxair for a 6-5 victory in Morgan City on the final night of the regular season of Swampland Baseball action.
Trailing 6-2 heading to its final at bat, Praxair (H.L. Bourgeois) scored three runs in the frame to cut its deficit to 6-5. However, Skipper’s for Sports (Morgan City) did not allow any more runs to secure the victory.
Skipper’s outhit Praxair 8-4 and all five of Praxair’s runs were unearned.
Praxair took its lone lead of the game in the top of the first with two runs.
Skipper’s for Sports responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, two more in the bottom of the second and one more in the third inning for a 6-2 lead.
The score remained the same until Praxair scored three runs in the top of the seventh.
Malik Phillips led Skipper’s with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Logan Tingle, 2-for-2, an RBI and a run; Seth Canty, 1-for-2, an RBI; and Josh Lorenzo, an RBI and a run.
Joseph Doiron earned the win. In two innings, he surrendered two runs — both unearned — on three hits with two walks, one hit batter and two strikeouts.
Mitchell Mancuso and Gage Hirschmann also saw time on the mound for Skipper’s. Mancuso pitched two innings and surrendered three walks and hit one batter. Hirschmann pitched three innings and surrendered three unearned runs on one hit with four walks and five strikeouts.
In junior varsity action, Praxair defeated Skipper’s, 6-5.
While both teams scored a run in the first inning, Praxair plated four runs in the top of the second for a 5-1 advantage.
Skipper’s rallied, though, with a run in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the third to cut its deficit to 5-4.
Each team scored a run in the fourth inning for the final margin.
Praxair outhit Skipper’s, 7-4.
Ethan Nguyen led Skipper’s with a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI, three stolen bases and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Hayden Barron, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Khairick Hartley, an RBI
Chris Pitre suffered the loss for Skipper’s. In three innings, he surrendered five runs — four earned — on four hits with two walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts.
In an inning of relief, Canty surrendered an earned run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
On Monday, Praxair run-ruled Skipper’s, 12-2, in Gray.
Skipper’s took its only lead of the game in the top of the first inning with a run.
In the bottom of the second, Praxair scored two runs, and after Skipper’s tied the game at 2 in the top of the third, Praxair put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fourth for a commanding 12-2 advantage.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Logan Tingle led Skipper’s with a 2-for-2 performance with a stolen base. Other top offensive contributors included Ross Albritton and Hayden Barron, each 2-for-2, and Trey DeRouen, 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Mike Crappell suffered the loss. In three innings, he surrendered eight runs — two earned — on three hits with three walks, two hit batters and three strikeouts.
In junior varsity action Monday, Praxair rolled past Skipper’s 8-1.
Praxair took a 1-0 lead after an inning and extended its lead to 3-0 after two innings and 8-0 after three complete.
Skipper’s scored its lone run in the top of the fourth.
Praxair outhit Skipper’s, 7-2.
Braxton Fontenot had both of Skipper’s hits.
On the mound, Kyle Ring suffered the loss. In two innings, he surrendered three runs — all earned — on five hits with one walk and one hit batter.
Skipper’s finished the Swampland season with a 6-8 mark.
BCG Services tops
Taco Bell in extra innings
BCG Services scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning for a 9-6 win in extra innings against Taco Bell in Berwick Tuesday.
Taco Bell (Berwick) forced extra innings after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6.
BCG Services (Covenant Christian) took a 3-1 lead after two innings and led 5-4 after four complete.
BCG Services extended its lead to 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning.
Denver Jenkins suffered the loss in relief. In one inning, he surrendered three runs — all earned — on three hits with one hit batter and one strikeout.
Collin Kulka started the game for Taco Bell. In seven innings, he surrendered six runs —five earned — on nine hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
Offensively, Bradley Gray led Taco Bell with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs. Other top offensive contributors included D.J. Robicheaux, 3-for-4; Andrew Askew, 2-for-2, an RBI and a run; Grant Oubre, 1-for-2, an RBI; Kyle Pitre, 1-for-4, a double and a run; and Lucas Hatch, an RBI and a run.
While the two teams were scheduled to play Tuesday in Houma, that game was cancelled.
Halimar defeats TrimCo
Halimar Shipyard defeated TrimCo Millwork & Supply, 6-4, in Swampland baseball action at Patterson Monday.
The game was called after six innings due to lightening.
Adam Dupuis earned the win. In 5.1 innings, he surrendered four unearned runs on seven hits.
Offensively, Thomas Mire led Halimar with a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs, while Bryce Grizzaffi was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Brad Beaubouef suffered the loss. He pitched three innings.
“The (first) inning was the difference in the game,” TrimCo Millwork & Supply Coach Ryan Jensen said. “We were sloppy and didn’t make a couple plays that would have allowed us to get out of the inning with them only scoring 2. I thought we did a nice job of putting together some things offensively as the game progressed, and we had a shot at the end. We had the bases loaded in the last inning and just weren’t able to get it done. We had 2 guys playing (Monday) that (didn’t have) any real significant varsity experience last season. Being in those situations like (Monday) night will hopefully help us to grow.”
Offensively, Beaubouef had a single and two RBIs, while Hayden Pinho had a single and an RBI.
The teams’ contest Tuesday in Amelia was canceled. TrimCo finished its season with a 1-10 mark, while Halimar concluded the summer with a 3-9 mark.
