St. Mary jail inmate faces sex charge

A 26-year-old incarcerated Morgan City man was additionally charged for exposing himself to a medical staff person, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

— Jermoud Watts, 26, of Morgan City, was charged with obscenity at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

Correctional officers investigated a complaint and located evidence that inmate Watts exposed his genitals to a member of the facility’s medical staff with the intent of arousing sexual desire. Watts remains incarcerated with no bond set.

Hebert reported responding to 39 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Ian Armond , 31, of Vivian Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday on two warrants for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the drug court treatment program.

Armond was brought to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center by a prison transport service. A correctional officer confirmed the active warrants for his arrest and booked him into jail. Bail is set at $200,000.

—Brandi Hebert, 36, of Southwest Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal mischief.

A deputy responding to a separate complaint made contact with Hebert and located the active warrant for her arrest. Hebert was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:

— Malcoln J. Smith Sr., 29, of Fern Street in Patterson, was arrested at 5:07 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of speeding, driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana (second offense).

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on Federal Avenue traveling at a rate of speed higher than the posted 25 mph speed limit.

The officer clocked the vehicle at 33 mph, at which time a traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Smith. A driver’s license check was conducted which revealed that Smith had a suspended license.

Smith's behavior raised officer’s suspicions that Smith may be involved in illegal drug activity. A search was conducted when the officer located suspected drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Reports indicate that during the investigation, Smith was observed discarding an object from his person. The object was retrieved by the officer and identified as suspected marijuana.

Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
