Actors sought for Louisiana film

Staff Report

Producers of an upcoming movie to be filmed mostly in south Louisiana have issued a casting call to find a woman to play the role of a strong, hardworking mother in addition to roles for teens and young adults.
Court 13 Arts, a “New Orleans-based nonprofit arts engine,” is making the film, which is tentatively titled “Wendy.” The main storyline centers around a group of kids who go on an adventure to “magical islands,” Casting Associate Jesy Buhl said.
Three of the lead children who producers have cast are from Franklin, Buhl said. The lead actress is from Lockport, and a few other cast members are from Houma.
Court 13 Arts also made the four-time Academy Award-nominated film “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” according to its website.
The main role producers are looking to cast is for women 35-45. The character description is of a “strong, hardworking mother who hasn’t let her pile of kids snuff out the twinkle in her eye or the joy in her heart.”
People 13-21 are also welcome to submit photos to be considered for older versions of the child cast. No experience necessary for any roles.
If interested, submit a recent photograph of yourself, which could include selfie, family photo or other photo, your email and phone number, age and location to c13auditions@gmail.com.
A photo is required because applicants must resemble other characters who have already been cast. The director will review submissions, and casting personnel will contact those applicants the director thinks match what they’re looking for.
The majority of the movie will be filmed in south Louisiana, and some of the movie may be filmed in the Morgan City area, Buhl said. But producers haven’t determined official filming locations yet, she said.
Casting officials hope to complete casting for the film by the end of August.
