Woman accused of stealing from baseball tourney
A 42-year-old Bayou Vista woman was arrested Monday for stealing money from a three-day baseball tournament, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Theresa Taylor, 42, of Field Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:53 p.m. Monday on the charge of theft.
A detective began an investigation July 1 into a report of a theft of gate admission proceeds from a three-day baseball tournament held at the Bayou Vista Community Center in June.
The detective identified Taylor as a suspect in the crime. While speaking with Taylor, she admitted to taking $900 in cash. Taylor was transported to the parish jail for booking. She was released on bail set at $1,500.
Hebert also reported responding to 39 complaints and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Vickie L. Norwood, 35, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. Monday on the charge of disturbing the peace.
A deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Wheelis Lane in Bayou Vista.
After speaking with several subjects at the scene, the deputy found evidence that Norwood went to the location and began arguing with a male subject. Norwood was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Marcus D. Battle, 41, of Plum Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:23 p.m. Monday on the charges of no headlights, driving under suspension, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of Alprazolam with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice tampering with evidence and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
A patrol officer in the area of La. 182 and Ditch Avenue observed a vehicle with only one functioning headlight. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Battle. Battle was asked to produce a valid driver’s license.
A computer check revealed that Battle’s driver’s license was suspended. During the course of the investigation, Battle gave officers consent to search his vehicle.
Before officers began the search, Battle grabbed a bag out of the vehicle and threw it onto the roadway.
Officers were able to locate the bag and it contained a large amount of suspected cocaine and several pills identified as Alprazolam.
Also located in the vehicle was U.S. currency over $500. The currency was suspected to be from drug proceedings. Battle was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
— Jasmen Harvey, 25, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5 p.m. Monday on the charge of aggravated battery and a warrant with St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear-speeding.
—Kaylynn Driskill , 28, of Grizzaffi Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5 p.m. Monday on the charge of aggravated battery.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Grizzaffi Street in regard to a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and spoke to Harvey.
According to reports, Harvey stated that she and her girlfriend, Driskill, had gotten into a verbal altercation, which turned physical when Driskill began hitting her with a soap dispenser.
Officers did notice bruising on Harvey's back. Officers also spoke to Driskill and she did confirm that she and Harvey had a verbal altercation, but it escalated, when Harvey struck her several times with a cell phone.
Officers observed marks and bruising on Driskill’s facial area. Both Harvey and Driskill were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
Harvey also held an active warrant for the 16th Judicial District Court.
—Mary Mayfield, 60, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:41 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to the area of La. 182 and Aycock Street in regard to a vehicle involved in illegal drug activity.
A description of the vehicle was given and officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex on La. 182. Officers observed an individual exiting the vehicle and sit in front of one of the apartments.
The individual was identified as Mayfield. While talking to Mayfield, an officer observed suspected marijuana next to where she was sitting.
Mayfield consented to a search of her person and the officer located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Mayfield was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
—Clarence Junifer , 56, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:26 a.m. Monday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to a local convenience store on La. 182 in regard to an individual possibly involved in illegal drug activity.
A description of the individual was given and officers located an individual fitting the description in the parking lot. The individual was identified as Junifier .
Junifer gave officers consent to search his person and a small metal pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics was found.
Junifer was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Randy Hatcher, 37, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:41 p.m. Monday on the charges of obstruction of public passage, resisting an officer with force, possession of marijuana (fourth offense), and resisting an officer failure to comply.
Hatcher remains jailed. No bail is set.
—Darryl Grogan, 53, of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested at 4:54 p.m. Friday on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia (second offense) and possession of marijuana (second offense).
Grogan remains jailed. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Ashley Campbell, 32, of California Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:45 p.m. Monday on the charge of theft by shoplifting. Campbell remains jailed. Bail is set at $301.
—Caleb Landry, 17, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:37 a.m. Sunday on the charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Landry was released on bail set at $1,000.
