(Update) Morgan City Police barricades area on Front and Egle
Morgan City resident Gary Cheramie, 33, was arrested today after police officers barricaded a residential area and used teargas to get him out of the house, said Morgan City Police Capt. Betty Augman.
A call came in at 7:25 a.m. reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence on the corner of Front and Egle streets. The female told officers that she heard a gunshot fired and left the residence.
Morgan City Police officers barricaded the area. The officers also contacted St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
With the help of deputies and St. Mary SWAT Team, officers sprayed teargas to retrieve Cheramie out of the home.
The officers made contact with Cheramie at 12:27 p.m. and he was unharmed.
Police officers placed Cheramie in custody at 12:28 p.m. He was arrested on the charges of illegal use of a firearm.
Morgan City Police Department wants to thank the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Police Department, Morgan City Fire Department, and Acadian Ambulance for assisting them on the scene.
