Sheriff: Man arrested for no license after hydroplaning off road

A 50-year-old Centerville man was arrested Thursday after his car hydroplaned off the road and a deputy learned the driver’s license was suspended, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Alfred Broussard III, 50, of Prairie Road North in Centerville, was arrested at 10:24 a.m. Thursday for driving with a suspended license. A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle in the wooded area off of U.S. 90 eastbound in the Calumet area.
The deputy located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Broussard. Broussard refused medical attention. During the investigation, the deputy learned that Broussard was traveling eastbound when his vehicle hydroplaned off the roadway.
While speaking with Broussard, the deputy discovered that he was driving the vehicle with a license that was listed as suspended. Broussard was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
Hebert also reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Jerod Singleton, 47, of Geraldine Street in Gibson, was arrested at 3:03 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for criminal trespass.
The warrant was issued as the result of an investigation into a trespassing complaint received in July. A deputy collected evidence that Singleton knowingly entered onto private property on Avoca Island.
Singleton turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. He was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.
—Cody Groves, 35, of Beal Drive in Corpus Christi, Texas, was arrested at 3:49 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating an unregistered boat, no boat numbers, failure to have a personal flotation device on a person under 17 while underway, and failure to change ownership of registration.
A deputy responding to an unrelated complaint made contact with Groves at a residence in the Patterson area and located the warrant for his arrest. Groves was jailed with no bail set.
—Steve Scully Sr., 50, of La. 182 in Amelia, was arrested at 7:25 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana.
—Tina Stelly, 47, of La. 182 in Amelia, was arrested at 7:27 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics detectives went to the address listed above to serve the warrant for Scully and conduct an investigation into a complaint of illegal drug activity at the location.
While speaking with Scully and another occupant, identified as Stelly, detectives received consent to search the premises.
While doing so, detectives located four pipes suspected of being used to smoke crack cocaine and other items of drug paraphernalia. Stelly was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21. Scully was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Cody P. Pearce, 28, of Rose Street in Berwick, was arrested at 11:26 a.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with criminal trespassing.
Pearce was transported from the Patterson Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant.
The warrant was obtained from an investigation conducted by Morgan City Police of an incident of alleged criminal trespassing reported Jan. 6. Pearce was jailed.
—Joseph L. Estay III, 46, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging him with hit and run and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
Estay turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department on warrants. The warrants stem from an investigation into an incident reported July 30 of an alleged hit and run. Estay was jailed.
—Michelle L. Bertrand, 30, of Riverview Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 6:16 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging her with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.
Investigators located Bertrand on La. 182 and arrested her on several warrants. The warrants stem from a narcotics investigation into a July 21 report where Bertrand was alleged to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia while in a drug free zone. Bertrand was jailed.
—Kerry L. Allen, 32, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Officers found Allen at a home on Wise Street and arrested him on a warrant. Allen was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Jason Matthews, 34, of Amelia, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of heroin and on a Terrebonne Parish warrant for failure to appear on the charges of speeding, resisting arrest by flight and no driver’s license. Bail is set at $7,500.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
