Inmate charged with making threat to kill officer

An inmate in the St. Mary Parish jail was accused this morning of threatening to kill a correctional officer.

The incident occurred while the inmate and two other inmates were being moved out of their cells after the jail staff officer saw the three inmates damaging their cells, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

— Therold James, 32, of Bayou Vista, was additionally charged at 1:57 a.m. today with criminal damage to property and public intimidation.

—Claude Charlot III, 23, of Patterson, was additionally charged at 1:57 a.m. today with criminal damage to property.

—Dion Maize, 24, of Morgan City, was additionally charged at 1:57 a.m. today with criminal damage to property.

A correctional officer at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center observed inmates James, Charlot and Maize causing damage to the windows in their cells. Correctional officers responded and relocated the inmates to another area of the facility.

While being removed from a cell, James made threats against a correctional officers’ life. All three suspects remain incarcerated.

Hebert also reported responding to 32 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Frederick Mosely, 43, of Bernard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:44 a.m. Monday on a warrant charging him with issuing worthless checks. A deputy located Mosely at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin. Mosely was released on a summons to appear in court Nov. 21.

—Damon Guy, 24, of Martin Luther King Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 7:40 p.m. Monday on two warrants for failure to appear on the charge of speeding. A deputy observed a vehicle and two men parked on the shoulder of U.S. 90 in Amelia and stopped to assist them.

The deputy made contact with the driver, Guy, and located the two active warrants for his arrest. Guy was jailed and later released on $500 bail.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:

—Ronald Clark, 48, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:36 a.m. Monday on the charges of armed robbery, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, resisting an officer and obstruction of justice.

Officers responded to a residence on Railroad Avenue in regard to a subject being armed with a gun. Officers arrived and located Clark, who matched the description provided.

As officers approached, Clark began to flee from officers and a foot chase ensued. Clark continued running from officers for several city blocks. Clark was believed to have discarded a hand gun under a residence.

Clark was apprehended by officers moments later and the alleged handgun was retrieved.

During an investigation, officers were told that Clark went to the Railroad Avenue residence where Clark pulled the handgun on an occupant of the residence, demanding money.

According to reports, investigators obtained evidence supporting the alleged robbery and that Clark was a convicted felon illegally possessing the handgun.

Clark was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

—Johnathon Priestly, 23, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:35 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.

—Micah Soileau , 18, of Joey Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Monday on warrants for failure to appear for theft, failure to appear for resisting an officer, failure to appear to pay fines, contempt of court, failure to appear for disturbing the peace, and direct contempt of court.

— Koby Blair, 18, of Eighth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance while in the presence of persons under age 17.

—Brandon M. Collier, 21, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:19 p.m. Monday on warrants for failure to appear for simple burglary and probation violation.

Investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Eighth Street. There they located several subjects inside the residence, which included persons under the age of 17.

Four of the occupants located inside the residence were identified by investigators as Priestley, Soileau , Blair and Collier.

A search of the residence was conducted. Priestly and Blair were found in possession of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Reports indicated that during the investigation, it was believed that Blair had consumed some of the controlled substances while in the presence of the persons under age 17.

The location of the incident was within the area of a local church in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.

A warrants check revealed that Collier had active warrants through the 16th Judicial District Court and that Soileau had active warrants through the 6th Ward Morgan City Court.

Priestly, Blair, Collier and Soileau were all placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where they were booked and incarcerated.

—Johnathon D. Hopper, 36, of Belanger Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Monday on a charge of simple battery.

An officer responded to a local grocery store on La. 182 in regard to a disturbance involving a battery. The officer arrived and spoke with the victim along with several witnesses to the incident.

The officer was told Hopper and the subject inside the store were involved in an argument when Hopper committed a battery on the victim. Hopper, who was present during the investigation, was arrested for the alleged battery and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

— Lorelyn M. Gotcher , 30, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:01 a.m. Monday on a charge for theft of goods.

An officer responded to a local drug store on Victor II Boulevard in regard to a shoplifter. The officer arrived and spoke with store employees who gave a description of a female who was suspected of shoplifting from the store.

Officers located a female in the area, identified as Gotcher, who matched the description provided. During an investigation, reports indicate officers located the items on Gotcher that were stolen from the store, valued at $28.40.

Gotcher was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
