Man faces domestic battery charge

A 32-year-old Bayou Vista man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for domestic violence, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

—Luis E. Corrales, 32, of Hotard Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery.

A deputy obtained the warrant following an investigation into a report of domestic violence received on Aug. 13. The deputy found evidence that Corrales grabbed a woman’s wrist and scratched her chest and neck during a confrontation at a residence in Bayou Vista.

Corrales came to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City to speak with a deputy. The deputy located the warrant for his arrest, took him into custody, and transported Corrales to the parish jail. No bail is set.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 32 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Samantha Ledom , 24, of Darlene Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of headlights required, no driver’s license, no proof of registration, no proof of insurance, switched license plate and a warrant for failure to appear for a violation notice for animals at large.

A deputy observed a vehicle traveling on U.S. 90 without headlights and conducted a traffic stop in Patterson.

The deputy made contact with the driver, Ledom , and learned that she was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license and that she had an active warrant for her arrest.

Also during the traffic stop, the deputy found that the license plate displayed on the van Ledom was driving was not registered to the vehicle. Ledom was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

— Tonetta Vining, 50, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday on a charge for possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.

—Floyd Vining, 54, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 11:27 p.m. Wednesday on a charge for possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles.

A deputy patrolling the Berwick Boat Landing on River Road observed a parked pick-up truck with a man standing nearby and a woman sitting inside the vehicle.

The deputy made contact with the two subjects, identified as Tonetta Vining and Floyd Vining. The deputy observed several open bottles of beer inside the vehicle and an open bottle of Schnapps in Tonetta Vining’s lap.

While speaking with the subjects, the deputy learned that the beer belonged to Floyd Vining.

Both were released on summonses to appear in court Dec. 14 and were transported from the area by a licensed driver who had not been drinking.

—Cory Pierce, 29, of Shady Grove Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of Schedule 1 drugs.

Pierce turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. A deputy transported him to the parish jail for booking. Pierce was released on bail set at $750.

— Therold James, 32, of Bayou Vista, was additionally charged with criminal damage to property at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday. A correctional officer at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center observed inmate James cause damage to the ceiling of a jail cell. James remains incarcerated.

Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:

—Christian J. Gil Jr., 19, of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of simple burglary.

The Morgan City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division began an investigation Aug. 20 of a reported burglary of a local business on La. 182.

During this investigation, Gil was developed as a suspect in the alleged burglary.

Gil came to the Morgan City Police Department Wednesday and spoke with investigators about the incident. At that time, evidence of Gil’s involvement in the alleged burglary was uncovered.

Gil was placed under arrest and booked into the Morgan City Jail where he was incarcerated.

— Orrando Guidry, 45, of Florida Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:42 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of theft of goods.

An officer responded to a local supermarket on Brashear Avenue in regard to a report of a shoplifter.

The officer arrived and spoke with store employees who told the officer that while Guidry was inside the store, Guidry concealed an item on his person valued at $6.49.

During an investigation, reports indicate that evidence of the alleged theft was uncovered by the officer.

Guidry was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

—Christopher Sylvester, 20, of Short Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:08 a.m. Thursday on a charge of resisting an officer.

A patrolling officer observed a subject walking through several residential yards in the area of Federal Avenue near Egle Street.

The officer stopped and made contact with the subject, later identified as Sylvester.

During an investigation, reports indicate Sylvester’s behavior made the officers suspicious that he may be involved in criminal activity.

According to reports, Sylvester began shouting at the officer and approached the officer in an aggressive stance, refusing to obey the officer’s commands.

Sylvester was placed under arrest, at which time he continued to disobey the officer’s instructions. He was placed into handcuffs moments later.

Sylvester was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was booked and incarcerated.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:

—Jerry Favors, 51, of Gabriel Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:44 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of theft by shoplifting with two counts.

Favors remains jailed. Bail is set at $674.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
