Sheriff: Three meth labs found in Bayou Vista home

A 46-year-old Bayou Vista man was charged Friday with operating a meth lab near a school after a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a home on Middle Road to investigate a welfare concern, Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Tommy J. McNally, 46, of Middle Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 6:28 p.m. Friday on the charges of operation of a clandestine laboratory within 1,000 feet of school property, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for theft of utility services and criminal damage to property.
A deputy investigating a welfare concern complaint at the address listed above made contact with McNally and located the active warrant for his arrest. During the arrest, the deputy saw a suspected methamphetamine lab inside the home and contacted detectives with the narcotics section.
Narcotics detectives located three meth labs, several items used in making methamphetamine and items of drug paraphernalia, Hebert said. The home is located across the street from a school.
The warrant for McNally’s arrest stems from an investigation into the theft of water utilities at the home. The deputy found evidence that McNally cut and damaged padlocks in order to turn water service on after failing to pay the utility bill, Hebert said.
McNally was jailed with no bail set. Xtreme Cleaners, a crime scene clean-up and methamphetamine laboratory remediation company, was contacted to remove the meth labs and other precursors.
Hebert reported responding to 107 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish
—Devin Stansbury, 25, of Carol Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:38 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of oxycodone, possession of Xanax, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of promethazine without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.
Deputies responded to a complaint of possible illegal drug activity taking place at a residence on Carol Road in Bayou Vista. Deputies made contact with Stansbury at his home.
While speaking with Stansbury, deputies received consent to search the apartment and located marijuana, oxycodone pills, Xanax pills, promethazine pills, and various items of drug paraphernalia. Two young children were at the home at the time of the investigation. Stansbury’s home is located near a park and church. Stansbury was jailed with no bail set.
—Frederick Mosely Sr., 43, of Bernard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:38 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of a motor vehicle and theft. A deputy assigned to the warrants section located Mosely at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Mosely was jailed with no bail set.
—Chastity Butler, 36, of M. Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:55 p.m. Friday on a warrant for disturbing the peace-loud music and harassment. A deputy assigned to the warrants section located Butler at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin.
The warrant stems from a complaint of harassment that occurred at a business on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista Sept. 3. The deputy collected evidence that Butler yelled and cursed at an employee and then proceeded to play loud music in the parking lot, causing a disturbance. Butler was released on a summons to appear in court Feb. 3.
—Brandon Fontenot, 19, of Parlange Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:51 p.m. Friday on the charges of traffic light violation and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy at the intersection of Southeast Boulevard and U.S. 90 observed a vehicle drive through a red light and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Fontenot. While speaking with Fontenot, the deputy learned that Fontenot had a pipe used to smoke marijuana inside the vehicle. Fontenot was released on a summons to appear in court Feb. 3.
—Karen Ledet, 39, of Murial Street in Bayou L’Ourse, was arrested at 1:38 a.m. Saturday on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Deputies responded to a complaint of a domestic battery that occurred in a vehicle on U.S. 90 in Amelia.
Deputies located the vehicle and people involved. During the investigation, deputies found evidence that Ledet struck a man in the face repeatedly while he was driving a vehicle. The victim sustained a bloody nose during the battery. Ledet was jailed with bail set at $2,500.
—Kord Atkinson, 30, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:22 p.m. Saturday on the charges of license plate lights required and driving with a suspended license.
—Nicole Atkinson, 31, of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 8:44 p.m. Saturday on a warrant charging her with direct contempt, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license on person, careless operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to honor written promise to appear.
A deputy working in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle driving on La. 182 with no license plate lights. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Kord Atkinson, and a passenger, Nicole Atkinson.
While speaking with the occupants of the car, the deputy found that Kord Atkinson was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and that Nicole Atkinson had an active warrant for her arrest. Kord Atkinson was released on a summons to appear in court Feb. 3. Nicole Atkinson was released on $360 bail.
—Steven Morris, 30, of Doris Street in Amelia, was arrested at 9:43 a.m. Sunday for violation of protective orders third offense. A deputy responded to a report of a subject violating a protective order at a residence in Bayou Vista.
During the investigation, the deputy found Morris at the home in violation of the court order to stay away from the location. The deputy also found that Morris had violated the orders on two other occasions. Morris was jailed with no bail set.
—Jerry Cross, 60, of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 10:31 p.m. Sunday on the charges of improper lane usage and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
A deputy observed a vehicle stopped in a lane of travel on La. 182 in Garden City. The deputy then observed the vehicle drive at a slow rate of speed across the center line on multiple occasions. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Cross.
The deputy observed that Cross was swaying back and forth where he stood. While speaking with Cross, the deputy learned that he had consumed several beers. The deputy conducted a field sobriety test, on which Cross did poorly.
Cross later registered 0.109 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. Cross was jailed and released on $2,750 bail.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Jose F. Zuniga, 20, of Chennault Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:19 a.m. Friday on the charge of theft.
Detectives conducted an investigation of a theft reported Nov. 1 at a retail store on La. 182. During the investigation, Zuniga was developed as a suspect in the alleged theft.
On Friday, Zuniga came to the Police Department to speak with the detectives in regard to the investigation. Detectives found evidence of the alleged theft valued at $918.96. Zuniga was jailed.
—Elder R. Portillo, 29, of Village Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Saturday on the charges of obstructing a public roadway and no driver’s license.
Officers responded to Aycock Street in regard to a vehicle crash. Police identified Portillo as the driver of one of the vehicles involved. Investigators determined that Portillo was obstructing the roadway. Portillo was jailed.
—Carole L. Lewis, 49, of Westside Boulevard in Houma, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. Saturday on the charge of disturbing the peace.
A patrolling officer observed a woman who appeared to be unsteady on her feet walking on the shoulder of the U.S. 90 bridge. The officer stopped and spoke with the female, identified as Lewis, who was believed to be intoxicated. Lewis was jailed.
—Guadalupe Maldonado, 62, of Grove Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:54 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of no vehicle insurance.
—Tammy S. Fitch, 56, of U.S. 90 in Patterson, was arrested at 9:55 p.m. Saturday on the charges of domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Officers responded to Kidd Street near Federal Avenue in regard to a fight involving a man and woman. As officers arrived, Fitch was observed committing a battery on Maldonado. Police were told that Maldonado and Fitch were at a home when they began to argue.
Maldonado attempted to leave the residence when Fitch allegedly committed a battery on Maldonado. Officers suspected that Fitch had been drinking and was suspected to be intoxicated. A warrant check revealed that Maldonado had an active warrant for City Court. Both Fitch and Maldonado were jailed.
—James C. Daub, 56, of Carol Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. Saturday on the charges of DWI and failure to change address on driver’s license.
—Susette Anslum, 41, of Two Sisters Court in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
Officers responded to the area of the U.S. 90-La. 182 intersection in regard to a report of a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. Police located a vehicle matching the description on La. 182 near Redwood Street and stopped the vehicle.
Daub was identified as the driver of the vehicle and Anslum as a passenger. During an investigation, Daub was believed to be intoxicated. Anslum’s behavior made officers suspicious that she may be involved in illegal narcotics activity.
Officers located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Anslum. The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws. Anslum was jailed.
Daub was transported to the Police Department for further chemical testing where Daub submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.125 grams-percent. Daub was jailed.
—Nigel M. Smith, 36, of Victor II Boulevard in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on the charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A patrolling officer observed a parked vehicle with the interior light on at a home on Cottonwood Street. Officers investigated the vehicle to see if had been burglarized, and officers saw suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Police talked to Smith at the home on Cottonwood Street, who told officers he was the owner of the vehicle. When questioned, Smith told officers that the suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia was his. Smith was jailed.
—Raul O. Neverez, 54, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:41 a.m. Sunday on the charges of simple burglary and disturbing the peace intoxicated.
A patrolling officer saw a suspicious subject walking in the area of Eighth Street getting into a parked vehicle near Florence Street. The officer stopped Neverez, who appeared to be rummaging through the vehicle.
Neverez was detained, and police talked to the owner of the vehicle, who told officers that Neverez did not have permission to be inside the vehicle. Neverez was believed to be intoxicated. Neverez was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
