Alden Curry, longtime school board member, dies at age 77
Long-serving St. Mary Parish School Board member Alden Curry passed away Wednesday. He was 77.
Curry was a native of Bayou Chene and a longtime resident of Franklin. He passed away peacefully at the age of 77, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Curry was an avid LSU sports fan, watching every game possible. In his early years, he shared his love of baseball, working with many young children in the Teche Little League, was very active in the St. Mary Parish School Board having served from January, 1973 until March, 1994, was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #57 F&AM for over 50 years and retired from Columbian Chemicals after 37 years of dedicated service.
Funeral services for Alden Curry will be held Friday, March 6, 2015, at Ibert’s Mortuary at 12 p.m., with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest in the Masonic Section of the Franklin Cemetery. The Rev. Clyde Crappell will conduct the services.
Survivors include his son, Alden E. Curry and his wife, Pam; daughter-in-law, Meri I. Curry; one brother, E. J. Curry and his wife, Letty; two sisters, Frieda C. Larson and her husband, Eldridge “Deacom” and Vivian C. Adams and her husband, Bill; four grandchildren, Kellie Curry, Valerie C. Skaradzinski and her husband, Jason; Kirk Curry and Aprill Curry and her fiancé, Michael “Mikey” Payton; and two great grandchildren, C.J. and Milana Skaradzinski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Kirkpatrick Curry; one son, Kirk Patrick Curry; his parents, Edwin Curry and Julia Allen Curry; six brothers, Evans Curry, Floyd Curry, Amos Curry, Clarence “Jack” Curry, Murphy Curry and his twin brother, Aubrey “Blackie” Curry; and four sisters, Goldie Snellgrove, Florence Allen, Alvenia Carline and Corrine “Keen” Curry.
Serving as pallbearers will be Alden E. Curry, Kirk Curry, Oray Rogers, Ronnie Curry, Aubrey Curry and Bill Adams. Honorary pallbearer will be his brother, E. J. Curry.
