CARRIE MAE SMITH KIRKLAND

Funeral Services for Carrie Mae Smith Kirkland will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton at 2 p.m. The Rev. Bobby Hodnett and the Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway will conduct the services. Carrie will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baldwin.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday at Little Pass Baptist Church beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until time of service.
Mrs. Carrie, a native of Bay Springs, Mississippi and a resident of Franklin/Baldwin for the past 58 years, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the age of 89, at Franklin Health Care, where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was lovingly known as the “Puzzle Lady”, using the last years of her life building incredibly beautiful puzzles. She was a member of the Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton.
Survivors include two children, Sue Kirkland Robicheaux and her husband, Dale; and Michael Kirkland and his wife, Christine; eight grandchildren, Kristi Robicheaux Coleman, Keeri Robicheaux Payton and her husband, Eddie; Damon Robicheaux and his wife, Chastity; Benjamin, Nicholas and Joshua Burgess, Dustin Kirkland and his wife, Paige; and Brandon Higgenbothum; 12 great grandchildren, Blair Robicheaux, Ashley Falterman, Katie and Brett Payton and his wife, Amanda; Emilee and Wil Pence, Calli Coleman, Nichole and Leah Burgess, Knox and Morissa Kirkland and Kylee Higgenbothum; and three great great grandchildren, Avery and Maddox Payton and Kinnedi Pence.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Edward Kershaw Kirkland; one daughter, Judy Kirkland Simoneaux; her parents, James Jackson and Carrie Ann Blackwell Smith; seven siblings, Lex, Claude, Clyde and Rex Smith, Tattie Mae S. Thigpen, Madie S. Davis, and Betty Lou S. Amdur. Carrie was the last remaining sibling in her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roland Degeyter and his staff, the Franklin Health Care Staff and all of their employees, and Heart of Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Carrie, as well as to her many friends, Nell for the Friday morning breakfasts, Joyce for the continual flow of magazines, Christine for the “Wheel of Fortune” nights, Michael and Dot for the bread pudding and her wonderful “Puzzle” friends at the Nursing Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Damon Robicheaux, Eddie Payton, Dustin Kirkland, Brandon Higgenbothum, Steve Gentry, and Michael Rodriguez.
