Ella Ruth “Dodie” Stansbury Mensman
August 16, 1923 — November 24, 2014
Ella Ruth “Dodie” Stansbury Mensman, 91, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away Nov. 24, 2014, at Teche Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was the loving wife to Ward Mensman for 68 wonderful years, a caring and devoted mother to Sheila Mensman and Ward Mensman Jr. and wife Sandra, a doting grandmother to Ward Mensman III and wife Magan, and great-grandmother to Oliviah and Caroline Mensman.
Ella has three surviving sisters, Rose Ann Williams, Wanzie Cousins and husband Charles, and Carolyn Darce and her husband Robert; and three surviving brothers, Owen Stansbury and wife Gloria, Dickie Stansbury and wife Mary Grace, and Jack Stansbury.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rita Breaux Stansbury; two sisters, Rita Stansbury and Becky Stansbury Aucoin; and three brothers, William “Bill” Stansbury, Merlin Stansbury, and Huey Stansbury.
She enjoyed cooking, and using her talents to create handmade heirlooms to be treasured for years to come. In her spare time she relaxed doing word puzzles, tending to her flower garden, watched soap operas, Wheel of Fortune, and the Saints football games, when they were winning. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross Catholic Church; she also served faithfully on the Bereavement Committee for several years.
Visitation will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. with interment at the Morgan City Mausoleum.
The Mensman family would like to thank Dr. Natalie Dishman and her staff for their care of Ella in her last months of life.
