ESSIE ‘SMOKEY’ SIMPSON
Essie “Smokey” Simpson, 74, a resident of Jeanerette, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 4:25 p.m., at her residence in Jeanerette.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 9, at Jones Funeral Home, 604 Lovette Street in Jeanerette, from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. Committal Services and burial will follow in the Sorrel Community Cemetery.
Essie was a Homemaker.
“Smokey,” as she was affectionately known leaves to cherish her memories her six sons, Donald (Evelyn) Simpson of Four Corners, Clenard Simpson Jr. of Baton Rouge, Dennis Simpson of Abbeville, Herbet Simpson of South Carolina and Christopher Simpson and Jospeh Simpson, both of Jeanerette; one daughter, Janet (Alray) Johnson of Jeanerette; six brothers, Sanders (Shirley) Sorrell of Houston, Texas, Gilord (Inez) Sorrell of Humble, Texas, Alex (Carolyn) Matthews of Dallas, Texas, Peter Lumpkin and Edaryl Lumpkin, both of New Iberia, and Edward Broussard of Jeanerette; six sisters, Irma Lewis of Four Corners, Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Gallien of Lake Charles, Bernadette Thibodeaux of Atlanta, Georgia., Mrs. Leonard (Alberta) Joseph of New Iberia and Clara Jackson and Dora Sutton, both of Four Corners; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Sorrell and Elzina Matthews-Sorrell and her husband, Clenard Simpson Sr.
