Gerald Joseph Anslem

August 31, 1945 — July 7, 2014
Gerald Joseph Anslem, 68, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Ochsner Medical Center.
Gerald was born on Aug. 31, 1945, in Morgan City, the son of Pete Joseph Anslem and Hazel Mary Scadlock Anslem.
Gerald built his life on the friendships he made with many friends and he cherished all of those relationships. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his family on vacations throughout Louisiana, as well as taking them fishing. Gerald was a man who loved to entertain and pass down his love of history and trivia to anyone who would listen. Gerald was a tugboat captain for Berry Brothers, working there for 25 years. He enjoyed taking his wife out for dinner as well as making several trips to the casino. He enjoyed being outdoors taking care of his garden. Of all the things that Gerald did in his life, the thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and cooking at all the family gatherings.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Adams Anslem of Morgan City; his mother, Hazel Scadlock Anslem of Morgan City; four daughters, Sherie Michel and husband, Raymond, Jerrie McNemar and husband, Glenn, Vickie Nini and husband, Bubba, and Alana Anslem and fiancé, Kenneth Andrus, all of Morgan City; 13 grandchildren, Glenn III, Kera, Blake, Calie, Megan, Brittany, Joseph, Abbey, Joleé, Tate, Sarajane, Blaine and Luke; and four great-grandchildren, Riley, Jimmy, Maddux and Elizabeth. Gerald is also survived by three brothers, James Anslem, Johnny Anslem and wife, Pat, and Mike Anslem and Elaine, all of Morgan City; numerous godchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Pete Joseph Anslem; son-in-law, Monte Adams; sister-in-law, Cornelia Anslem; maternal grandparents, James and Olize Scadlock; and paternal grandparents, Ivy and Irene Anslem.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Twin City Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Friday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service with a rosary at 10 a.m. Gerald will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery following services.
