HERBERT 'TUT' GILCHRIST

January 27, 1942 - January 27, 2017
Herbert “Tut” Gilchrist, 75, a resident of Bayou L’Ourse, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family after a long battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Bayou Sorrel, the son of Daniel “Tucker” Gilchrist and Ida Ray Gilchrist Richardson.
Herbert was a proud, simple man. He loved to hunt, fish and spend quality time with his family, earning recognitions along the way. He took pride in what he did and taught his children to do the same. If you want something, you have to work for it. He was also a commercial fisherman for many years, from crawfishing to catching sharks, he did just about all of it.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his adoring wife of 47 years, Deloris Vining Gilchrist; son, John Norris Gilchrist and wife Stephanie and their daughter, Elizabeth; daughter, Crystal Gilchrist Rodrigue Hoksbergen and husband Raymond “Doug,” their daughters, Kasandra and Karrie and husband Curtis and their children Caiden and Camille; sisters, Margaret Buck, and Betty Jane Kelly and husband Dallas; brothers, Hubert Gilchrist, and Caleb “Joe” Gilchrist and wife Rosa Elliott; his #1 girl, Fanchon Eula Celeste Vining Nelson; and godson, Evy Vining Jr.
Herbert was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Lee Ray Gilchrist Richardson; his father, Daniel “Tucker” Gilchrist; brother, Daniel “Lap” Haydell Gilchrist; grandparents, Dave and Lizzie Gilchrist and Josephine and George Ray II; son-in-law, Christopher Noel Rodrigue; grandchildren, Cy and Christian; in-laws, Uston Buck and Martha Gilchrist; nephews, Lil Hubert, Jacob, Korey, Tony Lee, and Collin Mitchell; and a host of unborn angels.
Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Twin City Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until services. Funeral services began at 2 p.m.
