JOSEPH DONALD DOUCET
March 14, 1934 – October 25, 2016
Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph Donald Doucet, 82, a native of Grand Prairie and a longtime resident of New Iberia, will be held Friday, October 28, 2016, during a 4 p.m. Memorial Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., with eulogy and rosary at 7 p.m.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. He received his educational degrees from SLI (UL) which led to a lifelong career and passion in education as teacher/principal at Coteau Elementary, St. John Elementary, and Hanson Memorial. He also loved listening to and playing music, along with mentoring students and coaching baseball. His greatest love and passion was the Rocky Mountains and sharing the wonders of nature with others.
Survivors include his sister, Norma Doucet Blood and her husband Gary Blood Sr.; one nephew, Gary Blood Jr.; two nieces, Sheralyn Blood and Rachel Blood Melancon and her husband Deacon Shawn Melancon; four great nieces, Richie Joubert and her husband Jacques and their daughter Emily, Lindsay Vidrine, Laura Melancon, and Abby Melancon, all of Grand Prairie; and his “adopted” family, Michael and Bonnie Trahan of Franklin, and their children, Carly Moss and her husband Seth and their children Emmy and Brayden of Covington, and Scott Trahan of Bakersfield, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Inez Doucet.
