Julie Ann Fitte Allen
June 26, 1944 — December 10, 2014
We celebrate the life of our beloved Julie, devoted wife of Charles D. Allen, loving daughter of the late Moise and Goldie Fitte, cherished sister of Denise Fitte (Harry Weyer) and Susan Falgoust and husband David, and aunt of Matthew and Eric Rome, Neal and Trent Falgoust and wife Georgia, and the late Shane Falgoust. Julie is also survived by two aunts and many close cousins and friends.
A native of New Orleans, Julie attended McDonough 19, Kohn Jr. High, Nicholls High and Loyola University, where she received her teaching degrees. Julie taught at Lacoste Elementary in Chalmette, Gables Academy in New Orleans and Aucoin Elementary in Amelia.
Julie was a lover of the arts, reading and traveling. She played piano, sang in choir, painted, dabbled in gardening, participated in Bible studies, book clubs and many other social groups throughout her life. Her favorite places to visit were Yellowstone Park and anywhere she could see the leaves change in the fall. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she loved decoration her tree. But most of all, Julie loved learning and education. She took every opportunity to use it as a learning and/or teaching experience.
Julie’s life for the past several years was tragically affected by Parkinson’s disease. Throughout it all, she was strong in mind and spirit, and continued to do whatever she could. She never felt sorry for herself and she never gave up on living the best life she could. Her sense of humor never failed, especially when she won at Mexican Train and other games. She was an inspiration to all of us to the end. Her last wish was to donate her brain to the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center for research to help find a cure for Parkinson’s.
It was Julie’s request that her memorial be a joyous celebration of her life with music, photos and stories. So we, her husband and sisters, invite all her family and friends to join in on the Bon Voyage for Julie. There will be a “story time” during the ceremony, so if you have any memorable stories of Julie, please share them. She also wanted everyone to sing, so joyfully lift your voices in her memory.
The Celebration of Julie’s Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church, 517 Federal Ave., Morgan City, LA 70380; phone, 985-384-7084.
In lieu of flowers, donations to APDA (American Parkinson’s Disease Association) or any neurological disease association would be appreciated.
Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
