Reverend Richard “Lee” Lamury

August 5, 1949 — December 31, 2013
Reverend Richard “Lee” Lamury, 64, a native and lifelong resident of Berwick, joined his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, in Plano, Texas, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Lee leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 42 years, Nell Picou Lamury of Berwick; two daughters, Rebecca Lamury of Baton Rouge and Robin Lamury Viator and her husband, David, of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, Sophia and Miles Viator of Plano, Texas; his father, Richard Daniel Lamury of New Orleans; his mother, Mable Broussard Pennison of Plano, Texas; and one brother, Dwaine Pennison of Houston.
He was reunited in heaven with his stepfather, Harold Pennison; his grandfather, Leon Broussard; his grandmother, Agnes Broussard; and his in-laws, George and Jeanne Picou.
Lee was a highly educated and talented man of God, holding a bachelor’s degree in science education, a master’s in administration and supervision, and a doctorate in theology. Before becoming a pastor, Lee was a greatly regarded teacher and coach at Berwick High School. He later served as the assistant principal at Berwick Junior High.
In 1981, Lee founded Word of Life Family Church with a beginning membership of 12 that grew into a congregation of hundreds. During his 32-year tenure as pastor, Lee introduced the Lord to thousands of people. Because of his missionary efforts, multitudes worldwide were led to Christ.
Lee was passionate about many hobbies which included fishing, golfing (for which he was acting president of the St. Mary Golf and Country Club), and designing, building and flying radio controlled airplanes. Lee was an avid, sometimes rabid, die-hard Saints fan. Lee loved spending time with children; this was especially true for his four grandchildren. He adored his wife, Nell, and together they traveled the world. An inventor, he was always designing and creating new ideas. His daughters fondly remember walking into his shop and seeing his inventive Cajun engineering ways of problem solving. Lee maintained his wit and sense of humor until the very end, having brought smiles to strangers and friends alike.
Most importantly, Lee was truly a reflection of Christ in how he lived his everyday life. Anyone who met him was touched by his kindness, patience, gentleness and wisdom. His smile could light up a room and put everyone at ease. Even a brief interaction with Lee was life-impacting for many.
The family requests that visitation be observed Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at Word of Life Family Church in Patterson with a celebration service at 2 p.m. Lee will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum.
