SHIRLEY MARTIN ROBICHAUX

Funeral services for Shirley Martin Robichaux were held Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville during an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial. Following the Mass she was laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Ruben Primor was the Celebrant for the Mass with Father Oneil Landry concelebrating. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Robichaux, David Robichaux, Phil Robichaux, Buddy Chauvin, Eric Burson, Sean Burson, Shane Robichaux, Nicholas Robichaux, and Randy Martin. Gift bearers were Haley E. Robichaux, Carley M. Robichaux and Trinity Robichaux. A gathering of family and friends began at the church at 9 a.m. and continued until time of service.
Shirley was a native and lifelong resident of Centerville. She graduated from Centerville High School as valedictorian and then went on to attend college at Port Arthur Business School. On May 30, 1947 she married the love of her life, William, and the two began their family. In her early years she worked as a telephone operator and then worked for the family business, Frank Martin Farms, as bookkeeper. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville, where she belonged to the Ladies Altar Society, taught Catechism, and contributed to the church cookbook. Some of her favorite pastimes included reading, painting and ceramics, stamp and coin collecting, and traveling. Her true passion in life though was her family who meant the world to her. On Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the age of 88, Shirley passed away at her home surrounded by her family. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, William S. “Billy” Robichaux; four children, Joan R. Chauvin and her husband, Berwick “Buddy”; Michael “Mike” W. Robichaux and his wife, Becky; David F. Robichaux and his wife, Connie; and G. Phil Robichaux; seven grandchildren, Eric P. Burson and his wife, Pilar; Sean M. Burson and his wife, Julie; Shane M. Robichaux and his wife, Heather; Nicholas D. Robichaux, Haley E. Robichaux, Carley M. Robichaux, and Amber N. Robichaux; eight great grandchildren, Michael Burson, Emily Burson, Erin Burson, Samuel Burson, Trinity Robichaux, Halynn Jefferson, Brycen Jefferson, and Ross Desormeaux; her godchild, Robert J. “Bobby” Judice Jr.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. Martin Sr. and Elda Butaud Martin; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. Martin Jr. and Savannah Martin; her sister and brother-in-law, Mattie M. Judice and Robert J. Judice Sr.; and godchild, Christopher Martin.
