URIC J. ROGERS

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, during a 10 a.m. graveside memorial service in the Franklin Cemetery for Mr. Uric J. Rogers, a native of Adeline and a lifelong resident of Franklin who passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016, at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, LA.
Mr. Uric was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, as well as in the Philippine Liberation. In his early years he enjoyed fishing and shrimping. Some of his favorite and well-known hobbies though were tending to his citrus trees, growing his vegetable garden, including the best tomatoes around, as well as building purple martin bird houses.
Survivors include one son, Barry M. Rogers and his wife, Paulette Thibodeaux Rogers of New Iberia; two brothers, Oray Rogers and his wife, Louise; and Ovey Rogers and his wife, Diane; four grandchildren, Dwight Rogers, Bret Rogers, Jonathan Longman and Erica Meyers; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vuearlee Marie Hebert Rogers; his parents, Whitney and Gladys Verrett Rogers; three siblings, Sadie Rogers Weathersby, Doris Rogers Walker and Floyd Rogers; a grandson, Tyler Meyers; and by Walter Weathersby, who was raised as a son.
