Funeral services for Mrs. Willola Johnson Sigur Thomas will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 Martin Luther King Drive, Alexandria, Louisiana, with the Rev. Larry D. Smith, officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ball, Louisiana.
Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 7, 1938, to Jeanette Johnson Sigur and William Gilbert Sigur of Patterson, Louisiana. She departed this life Sept. 20, 2016, at Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.
She attended college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Mrs. Thomas’ career as an educator and coach in Rapides Parish spanned 33 years.
She enjoyed community service, traveling, gardening, keeping in touch with former students and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was a member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Links Inc., Les Melleuses Inc. and Cenla Retired Teachers Association.
She was married to Morris Taft Thomas (54 years). She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette Johnson Hall; stepfather, Albert Hall; father, William Gilbert Sigur; brothers, Lonnie Ray Sigur, Ronald Sigur and William Sigur Jr.; sister, Janice Sigur Jackson; and treasured aunt, Dolores Johnson Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Moris Taft Thomas; her daughter, Joni T. Deville (Daniel); stepdaughter, Corlis D. Murray (Rick); grandchildren, Isabella Deville and Duncan Deville; brothers, Jonathan C. Hall (Patricia) of Patterson, Michael L. Garrett (Suzanne) of Kansas City, Missouri, Peter Sigur and Reginald Sigur (Evelyn), both of Los Angeles; sisters, Dolores Marie Hall of Patterson and Geraldine Sigur Hurley, Andrea Garret Nicholson and Shermella Garrett, all of Los Angeles; godchildren, Berdell Johnson of Atlanta, Linda Jackson Francis of Patterson and Earlexcio Anderson of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and a host of nephews, cousins, friends and former students.
Arrangements are under the professional direction of Gonzaque-Williams Mortuary.
