Bass Pro Shops Central Open coming to Morgan City in 2016

Staff Report

The 2016 Bass Pro Shops Central Open is coming to the area in February.
The event, which will be staged on the Atchafalaya Basin, will be held Feb. 18-20.
There are 190 boats and more than 400 anglers expected to participate in the tournament, bringing an estimated economic impact of $2 million to St. Mary Parish, according to a release from the event’s local host, the Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau.
The Atchafalaya Basin, included in Bassmaster Magazine’s 2015 Best Bass Lakes list, has hosted five previous Bassmaster events, including the 2009 Central Open in which Oklahoma pro Edwin Evers earned his second opens victory in a fourth-day fish-off tiebreaker
“We are grateful to be working with the Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau and bringing the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Open Series to the Atchafalaya Basin,” Michael Mulone, B.A.S.S. director of Event & Tourism Partnerships, said in a news release. “The fishing should be great this time of year, and the anglers from around the county will see all that Morgan City and the Cajun Coast has to offer.”
Registration will be held Feb. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium with a meal served for anglers.
Weigh-ins will be at the Jesse Fontenot Memorial Boat Landing in Berwick Feb. 18 and 19, with final weigh-in held Feb. 20 at B.A.S.S. Pro Shop in Denham Springs.
There will be live coverage of the tournament on bassmaster.com, including live streaming of the daily weigh-ins.
“We’re excited to welcome the Bassmaster Series back to the Atchafalaya Basin and to welcome all the anglers to the Cajun Coast,” Carrie Stansbury, Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau executive director, said in a news release. “The Atchafalaya Basin is one of the most beautiful places to fish.”
