Cabela's King Kat Tournament Trail coming to area

Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will come to Morgan City April 9.
The event, set for the Atchafalaya River Basin, will enable local catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and an opportunity to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat North and South Championship.
To fish the tournament, anglers must be a member of the King Kat Association. A one-year membership is $25. To pre-register, visit www.kingkatusa.com or call (502) 384-5924.
Late registration will be held April 8 at the Holiday Inn at 520 Roderick St. in Morgan City from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A captains’ meeting/seminar will follow at 7 p.m.
The tournament will run from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. with the weigh-in at the Jesse Fontenot Memorial Boat Landing in Berwick.
Anglers may fish anywhere accessible by boat from the weigh-in site.
All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4 p.m. with a five-fish limit per team.
The Cabela’s King Kat North Championship will be held Sept. 23-24 on the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky. The South Championship will be held Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 on the Cumberland River (Old Hickory Lake) at Gallatin, Tennessee.
In addition to the fishing tournament, a Cabela’s King Kat Kids event will be held April 9 at Lake End Park.
The free event is open to all ages 12 and younger. Sign up will be from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. The Kid’s Fishing Event will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. All participants will receive a prize. They should bring their own rod, reel and bait.
All children must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
Prizes for winners will be given in two age groups, ages 0-7 and ages 8-12.
All participants are eligible for a chance to win one of six Outdoor Promotions $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded in October.
