Berwick defeats Central Lafourche

Berwick High School won its home opener Tuesday with a 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-20) victory against Central Lafourche.
Ashton Morales and Mary Jordan Melancon led Berwick. Morales had two aces, nine kills, two blocks, four assists and 12 digs, while Melancon had two aces, two kills, two blocks, seven assists and seven digs.
Other top contributors included Brittany Roberie, one ace, one kill and 19 digs; Rosalyn Gros, two aces and 13 digs; Emma Hover, nine digs; and Jordan Lipari, four kills and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick defeated Central Lafourche 2-1 (25-21, 20-25, 15-10), while in freshman action, Berwick won 2-0 (25-18, 25-13).
Berwick (1-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Assumption’s tournament. Berwick will play Central Lafourche at 5 p.m., while at 7 p.m., the Lady Panthers will meet Chalmette.
Patterson tops Franklin
Behind 17 aces, the Patterson High School Lumberjills defeated Franklin 3-0 in both teams’ season opener in Franklin Tuesday.
Patterson won by scores of 25-10, 25-19 and 25-18.
Arian Grogan led Patterson with eight aces and five kills while adding one dig and one assist.
Other top offensive contributors included Kaitlynn Spradling, seven aces, one kill and one dig; Katelyn Larson, six assists; Erykah Singleton, one ace, three kills and one block; and Makayla Ruiz, two kills and two digs.
In junior varsity, Patterson had 24 aces in a 2-0 win (25-15, 25-11).
Tapanga Haven led Patterson with 10 aces and added two assists; Madison Paul had seven aces and two kills; and Kiora Grady had four aces and three kills.
Patterson (1-0) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Highland Baptist in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
Morgan City falls to
Hahnville
Morgan City High School dropped its season opener to Hahnville in straight sets, 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, on the road Tuesday.
Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City with one ace, five kills and five digs, while Allie Vincent had two aces, 11 assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Alex Thompson, three kills, six blocks and two digs; and Brandi Albarado, two aces and five digs.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City won 2-0 (25-23, 25-14).
Twanna LeBeau led Morgan City with eight kills and three digs, while Abby Reynaud had two aces, two kills, eight assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Sh’Diamond Holly, one kill, three blocks, one assist and one dig; Hailey Lewis, two aces and two blocks; and Faith Crappell, three digs.
In freshman action, Morgan City had 16 aces in a 2-0 win (25-11, 25-21).
Jolee Nini led the squad with five aces and added two kills, seven assists and two digs.
Other top contributors included Nia Lightfoot, four aces and three kills; Karmen Peterson, four aces and one kill; and Haillie Blanchard, one assist and four digs.
Morgan City (0-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Assumption’s tournament. No individual details on games were available today.
