“I’m really proud of the way the girls performed on a big stage,” Berwick girls’ powerlifting coach Heather Templet said today. “For us to come out in our first year and have three top 3 finishes with several other top 5 is amazing. I’m proud of the seniors for leading us and showing the younger girls that hard work in the weight room pays off. I can’t wait to see what our future holds with this sport.”

Berwick recorded two points in team scoring. Church Point High School won the meet with 50 points.
Berwick boys’ powerlifting coach Wil Broussard said he was proud of his team’s effort.
“I always ask the kids just to go out there and do their best, and as long as we’re doing that, I’m always pleased,” he said.
He said that as for the future, Berwick has plenty of work to do but he thinks they are on the right track.
Broussard said the powerlifting team would need to get more students involved and would need patience in order to get to the level of the division’s top teams.
He noted patience because a lot of his competitors are sophomores and freshmen and they are competing against juniors and seniors who have been lifting longer.
“I think in a couple years, we’ll get a little bit more of a realistic view of where we stand,” he said.
