CCHS edges Hanson, 47-46

Central Catholic survived a big fourth-quarter rally by Hanson for a 47-46 District 7-1A victory Tuesday.
While Central Catholic led 33-25 entering the fourth quarter, Hanson outscored the home team 21-14 for the nail-biting finish.
Central Catholic led 15-10 after the first quarter, while Hanson cut its deficit to 22-18 by halftime.
The Eagles extended its lead in the third quarter after an 11-7 scoring advantage.
Stefano Guarisco led Central Catholic with 13 points, while Jalen Johnson scored 11 and Charlie Solar, eight.
In junior varsity action, Central Catholic defeated Hanson 41-33. Demarcus Mitchell led the Eagles with 19 points, while Sydney Holder added eight.
Central Catholic (6-8 overall, 3-0 in district) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Ascension Episcopal in District 7-1A action. Boys’ junior varsity will play at 5:30 p.m., while boys’ varsity will hit the court at 7:30 p.m. following the girls’ varsity contest.
Morgan City defeats
Grace King
Morgan City defeated Grace King, 48-41 in boys’ basketball action in Morgan City Tuesday.
Taaj Daniels led Morgan City with 13 points, while Makye Richard had 12.
Other scorers for the Tigers included Jaylen Jones and Tywaun Walker with seven points apiece, Lloyd Singleton and Keshawn Marshall with four points each, and Brady Fryou with two.
Morgan City (10-6) will get a break in action as they will not hit the court again until Jan. 20 when it travels to face Ellender in the Tigers’ district opener in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick defeats
Highland Baptist
The Berwick Panthers picked up their eighth win of the season Tuesday with a 78-59 win against Highland Baptist in New Iberia Tuesday.
The win was a significant one for the team because it marked the most wins the squad had won in the last 7-10 years, Berwick coach Sean Comeaux said.
In Tuesday’s win, Audwin Williams led Berwick with 26 points, while Donald Tillman had 18 and Larenz Clark, 13. Kenan Jones added eight points.
Berwick (8-7) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Kaplan in a 5 p.m. contest.
Patterson knocks off
West St. Mary
Patterson defeated West St. Mary 57-30 in basketball action in Baldwin Tuesday.
Patterson jumped out to a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and extended its advantage to 23-9 at the half.
The Lumberjacks put the game away in the third quarter with a 21-4 scoring advantage for a 44-13 lead after three quarters.
West St. Mary outscored Patterson 17-13 in the fourth period for the final margin.
Taylan Grogan led Patterson with 21 points.
Other scorers included Tyric Garrett, eight; Kenneth Washington, seven; Jordan Butler and D.J. Jones, five points each; Devontre Richard and Malik Garrett, three points apiece; and Khyri Harris and Mykel Jones, each two points.
Patterson (8-4) will return to action Friday when its hosts Catholic High-Baton Rouge. Junior varsity action will begin at 6:30 p.m. and varsity will follow.
