Central Catholic and Morgan City High schools both qualified girls basketball teams for the state playoffs, which were announced Monday. Central Catholic and Morgan City girls basketball teams qualified for the high school girls basketball playoffs.
In the Louisiana High School Athletic Association pairings released Monday, Central Catholic is the No. 11 seed in Division IV and received a first-round bye. The Lady Eagles will not play until Monday at 6 p.m. when they will face No. 6 Cedar Creek in Ruston. Cedar Creek also received a first-round bye.
Meanwhile, in Class 4A, Morgan City (9-11) qualified as the No. 23 seed. The Lady Tigers will open the playoffs at No. 10 Rayne (17-16) Thursday at 6 p.m. Rayne was the Class 4A runner-up a year ago.
In Morgan City’s regular-season finale Friday, the Lady Tigers defeated Vandebilt Catholic, 49-27.
Alisha Singleton led Morgan City with 17 points, while Sh’Diamond Holly scored 11. Other Morgan City scorers included Deryon Johnson, nine; Indeara Chenevert, six; Twanna LeBeau, four; and Hailey Lewis, two.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic nearly upset Hanson Memorial, falling 35-33 in its regular season finale Friday. Yani Johnson led Central Catholic with 15 points, while Aaliyah Poole scored eight.
At Patterson, the Lumberjills closed their season with a 58-26 loss to Erath in a District 8-3A contest.
Erath outscored Patterson in every quarter, taking a 14-10 lead after a period of play, a 33-16 halftime advantage and a 41-20 lead after three quarters.
Makayla Ruiz and Brianna Butler each scored eight points for Patterson. Other scorers included Nyla Holder, five; and Kemprielle Williams, three.
Patterson finished its season with a 5-15 overall mark, including a 2-10 record in district play.
