Charlot receives Under Armour All-American jersey

Everyone knows what Patterson standout wide receiver Daylon Charlot can do on the football field.
But what many wondered, however, was how the mild-mannered senior would handle being the center of attention Tuesday as he was presented his Under Armour All-America game jersey in front of a packed gymnasium.
During the past several weeks, the Baltimore-based Under Armour brand has made stops across the nation to present jerseys to standout high school football seniors for the eighth annual Under Armour All-American Game Jan. 2 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Tuesday, it was Charlot’s turn.
“I was so nervous,” Charlot said. “I don’t like doing stuff like this. But, I’m also very excited because one of my goals was to play in this game, and now I’ve reached it.”
Charlot is a member of the ESPN 300 list of top high school football players in the country. He is ranked as the 66th best player in the United States and eighth-best wide receiver prospect. Charlot is also ranked as the second best player in Louisiana, regardless of position.
The senior has recorded 21 catches for 531 yards and 10 touchdowns this season despite facing double and triple coverage. He has 122 receptions for 2,487 yards and 40 touchdowns in his Patterson career.
“His strength as a football player is his strength,” Patterson head coach Chad Blanchard said. “He’s a strong kid, but he also knows how to use that strength to be a better player. He uses it to get himself open, and he’s so physical that he plays bigger than he actually is. Daylon is also really fast and great after the catch.”
Charlot is 6-feet and he weighs 177 pounds.
He gave a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama in early February, but that was before LSU offered him a scholarship. The Tigers are pursuing him despite his pledge to Alabama. Verbal commitments are non-binding.
“I’m going to Alabama or LSU,” Charlot said. “It’s going to be one or the other, and I’ll make my announcement at the UA game.”
The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Charlot has been bombarded with unsolicited advice and options.
“Everybody here wants me to go to LSU but I just tell them I’m gonna do what I think is best for me,” he said.
“It’s a business decision.”
He said right now, Bama leads 60-40.
Charlot said that he will talk to his family, teammates and Blanchard when the time comes to make his decision.
“My family has been great,” Charlot said. “They just tell me to get my high school goals accomplished and everything else will fall in place. My teammates keep me grounded, and they say they’re gonna support me wherever I go, and Coach Blanchard is like a father to me so I will listen to what he has to say.”
Charlot also thanked his teachers.
“I can’t forget to thank my teachers because without them staying on me to get my grades, all of this wouldn’t be possible,” he said.
Blanchard, other coaches and teachers also think highly of Charlot.
“He is just a good kid,” Blanchard said. “He has always been easygoing, extremely coachable and hardworking. We love him to death. This is a great honor, and this kid deserves it. He’s worked hard on and off the field. It’s been a pleasure to coach him.”
Charlot has offers from Arizona St., Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi St. and Notre Dame, among others.
“I just wanted to be good enough to play in the SEC, and whatever school I choose, that’s another goal I’ve accomplished and that’s a blessing.”
Charlot is the son of Lashaunda Bridget and his guardians are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Simmons.
