Eagles defeat Vermilion Catholic

The Central Catholic High School Eagles knocked off the Vermilion Catholic Eagles, 61-47, in District 7-1A action Tuesday.
Central Catholic outscored its district rival in every quarter except the fourth, taking a 21-11 lead after the first quarter and a 36-24 lead at the half.
The Eagles extended their lead to 48-30 lead after three quarters before Vermilion Catholic outscored Central Catholic 17-13 in the fourth quarter.
Samarick Paul led three Eagles in double figures with 21 points. Other scorers included Stefano Guarisco with 18 points and Jalen Johnson with 11 points, while Blake Byrne scored seven.
Vermilion Catholic connected on nine three-pointers, while Central Catholic connected on six.
Vermilion Catholic had to play more than a half without their head coach as Roch Charpentier was assessed his second technical foul with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter.
Central Catholic (11-10 overall, 7-1 in district) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial in District 7-1A action. Boys’ varsity action is set for a 7 p.m. start.
Also, the Eagles’ contest against Metairie Park Country Day, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to Feb. 18 and will be played at 7 p.m.
Patterson defeats
Franklin
The Patterson Lumberjacks outscored Franklin 20-8 in the third quarter en route to a 63-48 victory in District 9-3A action in Franklin Tuesday.
While Patterson led just 25-24 at the half, the Lumberjacks outscored the Hornets 20-8 in the third quarter for a 45-32 lead after three quarters.
Patterson held an 18-16 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
Taylan Grogan led Patterson with 19 points, while Kenneth Washington had 16 points and Mykel Jones, 11 points.
Other scorers for Patterson included Daylon Charlot, eight; Nehemiah Augustus, four; DJ Jones, three; and Malik Garrett, two.
Patterson (13-5, 3-1) will return to action Friday when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic in nondistrict action. Junior varsity is set for a 6 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
Berwick falls to E.D. White
E.D. White outscored Berwick 35-8 in the first quarter en route to a 60-37 victory against the Panthers in District 7-3A action Tuesday in Thibodaux.
After the big first quarter, E.D. White extended its lead to 52-17 at the half.
In the third and fourth quarters combined, the Panthers outscored the Cardinals 23-8 for the final. Seven of the Cardinals’ points came in the final quarter.
Berwick (10-11, 1-3) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Franklin.
