'Jacks rout Hornets, clinch district title

The Patterson Lumberjacks clinched the District 9-3A title with a 70-40 victory against Franklin Friday.
Patterson, which now has earned either an outright or co-district title for the fifth straight year, used a big second quarter to break the game open.
Leading just 12-10 after the first period, Patterson outscored Franklin 21-7 in the second quarter for a 33-17 lead at the half.
The lead was extended to 50-26 after three quarters.
During the fourth quarter of Friday’s game, Franklin lost D’Andre Charles to ejection.
Friday’s win completed a comeback for the Lumberjacks, who after dropping their first district game, won their next seven district contests to finish league play with a 7-1 mark.
The Lumberjacks dominated their final three district contests, winning by an average margin of 36.3 points.
“I am very proud of this group of guys,” Patterson coach Ryan Taylor said today. “We started the district season off with a disappointing performance against Donaldsonville, but they battled back and were able to claim the district title outright. This is the (fifth) district title in a row and continuing the streak meant a lot to them.”
In Friday’s win, Kenneth Washington led the Lumberjacks with 17 points, while Daylon Charlot also reached double figures with 11 points. Other scorers for the Lumberjacks included Malik Garrett, eight; Taylan Grogan, six; Jordan Butler, Devontre Richard and Khyri Harris, five points apiece; Tyric Garrett, four; D.J. Jones and Nehemiah Augustus, three points each; Mykel Jones, two; and Terrence Singleton, one.
With the regular season complete, Patterson (18-6) now turns its attention to the Class 3A postseason. Brackets were released today.
“It is a one-game season now, and there is no room for breakdowns,” Taylor said.
Central Catholic
defeats Gueydan
Central Catholic closed out District 7-1A play Friday with a 55-34 win against Gueydan in Morgan City.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Samarick Paul with 19 points, while Jalen Johnson and Blake Byrne also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Other scorers for the Eagles included Elijah Swan, five; Tanner Wiggins, four; and Charlie Solar and DeMarcus Mitchell, two points each.
Central Catholic (14-13 overall, 9-3 district) now will await its Class 1A playoff seeding and opponent, which will be announced today.
Berwick falls to
E.D. White
The Berwick Panthers dropped their regular season finale to E.D. White 40-22 Friday.
E.D. White led 18-8 at the half of the District 9-3A contest.
Kenan Jones led Berwick with eight points; Audwin Williams and Larenz Clark, six points each; and Tysin Meads, two.
Berwick concluded its season with a 10-16 overall mark and a 1-7 record in district play.
